Love is Blind by Claire Voyant
2002 / Metropolis Records

This is my disappointment of the year. Its not a bad album. But from their previous records, this is a record that shares the efforts of George Lucas’ second Star Wars trilogy. Comparisons to movies aside, its simple that the magic is gone. A few songs here and there capture the old charm in the mold of new concoctions. The first song, “Pieces” is an ambitiously bright pop song - something that Claire Voyant hasn’t done before. The last, “Love is Blind” is an ornate chime of a trip hop melancholy. But whether it be pop, or trip hop or goth, good songs are always key. And in between the aforementioned songs, the rest of the songs are mundane. But to be honest, in their self titled debut and Time and The Maiden, a few songs out of the whole really stood out just the same. They exuded grace and magnificence though, overshadowing the glum b-sides to the point of irrelevance. With Love is Blind, the entire album is probably b-sides.

score 2.5 out of 5
