Spiral by Evidence

Here's the second album of rockin metal band Evidence from Portugal. It has a bigger sound care of some mastering by Tommy Newton, who to my dwindling knowledge of metal these days, is still memorable to me and is known for work with many popular European metal acts, hmmm Conception comes to mind. I do remember Evidence's charming debut, Truth from a Lie because the songs were simply quite fun and toe-tapping. It doesn't matter that the band can rock or the guitarist was slick and the singer reminded me of Robin McAuley/Chity Somapala. So Spiral has the bigger sound to emphasize this big lunged singer and the hungry fingers of the guitarists. Coupled to their Dokken revival, this is quite the herald of 80s bliss. Where is Diamond Dave? Ok, this is too much. Too much singing. Too much boogie woogie. Too much one liner choruses. "Desperation!" "Desperation!" Desperation!" And too much Racer X guitar hero fluff. It reminded me of how Nevermore went from just enough with Dreaming Neon Black to being too much with Dead Heart in a Dead World. And then not enough plain old good songs.

Score 2/5
