tim christensen > secrets on parade

Tim Christensen is Dizzy Mizz Lizzy and after that promising group disbandedmany disappointed fans thought the magic could return with only Tim at thehelm. Nobody else has that smooth, Beatles-ish voice of disjointed eloquence and matter' a fact flippancy. Nobody could compose whimsical lyrics that simply rock the soul. Digestible sounds notwithstanding, read the lyrics and you go on the deep end. Then along comes Tim's solo album in seemingly a different form. Secrets on Parade is remarkably changed Tim Christensen, though a bit of semblance does seem to have evolved from Dizzy's last Rotator album. While Dizzy Mizz Lizzy was the disturbed MTV party animal, Secrets on Parade is more of a toned down VH1. Smooth, contemporary, somewhat restrained, not quite in need of Viagra, yet distinguished and mature; this is grown up rock and pop that manages to make things interesting in the land of fad. Since Radioheads scoffs at the idea, this is an extension of Travis or a Hee Haw version of Oasis - you know - the Brit pop - expressive - 90s man. With Tim’s voice and guitar blues rock, this is that music but with innocence removed. It's like watching the excesses of Madonna, U2, and Mick Jaggar graduated to VH1 - they've fucked around when they were younger and now its time to move on.
