![]() Chris Vrenna of Nine Inch Nails fame is enamored by an oil painting featuring a dilapidated fellow investigating typewritten prose with a troubled look. And you can see this painting as the Tweaker’s album cover and design. The Attraction to All Things Uncertain by Tweaker is Chris’ creation to explain his story behind this painting. This is also an electronic musician’s engaging composition to complement this painting. Tweaker could be described as a stripped down and meager compliment to A Perfect Circle and Tool’s Aenima. There is an alt-rock sound of drums and guitars juxtaposed to the alt-industrial sound of game-play electronics. The mostly instrumental lot often have songs that build up to a drum rolling, chord crashing high in brief moments. Yet the effect is pensive and shadowed as half of the Tweaker album are almost an android dream of electronic sheep. The synth creations are dark, bold, and pronounced, eaching holding its own in the limelight. This is the beauty of Tweaker. Its as if Vrenna holds invisible puppeteer strings for a dance troupe of miniature robots. Our curiosity switches attention eagerly from one to the other as each twirls within the limitations of their design. Additionally the other half of this album are personal songs with meaningful vocalists: Craig Wedren, Will Oldham, and David Sylvian, the latter being such a smooth gem of the lot, he could probably front A Perfect Circle one day. 50 minutes of this is not enough.
