Note: This chapter marks the update and return to this fic after a long absence, plus the addition
of my co-writer, Amidala. :) We'll be alternating writing chapters from now on.
Que Sera Seramyu Part 7 - Panic
by Haruka
Please refer to disclaimer and notes in Part 1.
Nao whistled as she headed out of the elevator. It had been a good day. She could hardly
keep from giggling when she thought of Ryuji trying to bluff his way through the next rehearsal.
"That'll teach you not to shoot off your mouth, Ryuji," she said smugly. In spite of the
clownish way things had gone, the theft of the script had been fun, and she had managed to get to
it before anyone else had. Maybe it was childish to think that way, but Nao didn't care. What
was so great about acting grown-up, anyway?
Well, she thought, blushing slightly as she unlocked the door to her room, maybe there
was _one_ thing to be said for it.
As soon as she pushed the door open, Nao knew something was wrong. Ryuji's script
had been laying on the bed, but now it wasn't there.
She walked into the room, looking around carefully. Although she'd been sure she'd just
dropped the script on the bed, maybe at the last second she'd put it away. She opened all the
drawers and the closet, even her suitcase. While doing so, she knew it was futile - the script
_had_ been on the bed. She bent down and looked underneath, but there was no luck there
either. Dropping heavily onto the bed, Nao planted her elbow on the side table and propped up
her head with it.
Ryuji must have caught on to their plot when he saw the condition of his room. Who else
would have taken the script? Everyone already had their own copies, and besides, the other
script-thieves were with her afterwards. Of course, she reasoned, it was possible a maid had
taken it as a souvenir.
Something else was nagging at Nao and she couldn't put her finger on it. She sat back
with a sigh, then froze, her eyes glued to the spot where her elbow had been. A mental image of
herself depositing her diary there earlier flashed in front of her. She hadn't moved the diary since
then, but it was gone.
Frantically, Nao yanked open the drawer again, even though she had just been in it
looking for the script and knew her diary hadn't been there. Fighting down panic, she searched
again all the places she had just been through, literally tearing her own room apart in her frenzied
efforts. In the end, she sank down to the floor among the clothes, books, and toiletries, trying not
to cry.
Gone. Her diary was gone. No maid had stolen _that_.
Nao put her face in her hands. Ryuji had her diary. There was no other explanation. He
had come for the script, but had found her carelessly dropped diary and had taken it as a bonus to
get revenge on her. He hadn't even had to search the drawers for it. Hell, he probably wouldn't
even have GUESSED that she kept a diary if she hadn't left it in plain sight. How could she have
been so stupid?!
Her fears intensified as she thought of what he would find _in_ the diary. Oh God, she
thought miserably. He would read all about her fantasies - the ones she hadn't dared mention
even to her friend Yuhka. The ones about Hikari.
Suddenly she wished that her Sailor Uranus sword was real and she could run herself
through with it. But that wouldn't solve the immediate problem. Maybe, just maybe, she could
get the diary back from Ryuji before he opened it. Leaping to her feet, Nao jumped over the junk
on her floor and ran from the room. He was going to give up that diary if she had to take his arm
off with it, she thought furiously as she headed down the hall.
But ... how could she ask for it? He'd force her to admit that she'd broken into his room.
He might even tell the director and producers - she could get into a lot of trouble. He'd find
some way to cover up his own felony - he was sneaky like that.
Nao stopped. There was no way around it. She'd have to steal her diary back, and she'd
have to do it alone - no one else could be allowed to find out it existed.
And if Ryuji had already read it, she would make him eat it.
