- Vipers 18
v Strathclyde 7 A solid all round display saw The Vipers overcome an early deficit to power to victory behind the rushing of Andy Cohn who gained 112 yards on the day. The Sheriffs opened the scoring following a fumbled punt return. Malcom May got in with a ten yard run followed by a Willie Clark extra point. Andy Hohn pulled The Vipers back to within a point before halftime with an impressive 11 yard run. Excellent defence kept the Sheriffs out in the second half and the Viprs took the lead with a run in by Ian 'sneaky' Lakin of 19 yards. Andy Hohn completed a good day with a 3 yard run late on to move the Vipers to 1 and 1. 21.5.00 - Nighthawks 8 v Vipers 0 The Nighthawks scored on their opening drive and put the 2 point conversion over to take a first quarter lead and thought that the 16 man Viper team would be a walkover. However the resilient Vipers had other thoughts. With most of the Vipers going both offence and defence it was always going to be a tough game, but just before the break The Vipers took the ball to The Nighthawks 1 yard line but coudn't convert it to points. Despite
some aggressive play The Vipers shut down The Night hawks and refused to
give. Key injuries to QB Tim Spaull (broken arm), Andy Rowland (dislocated
knee) and Rob McNaughton (sprained ankle) restricted The Vipers who came
out of this game with far more credit than the result shows. The
Nighthawks were lucky to hold on in the end. |
