Rogers HighSpeed and Linksys Router

Checking the MAC address of your Computer

Please Determine your MAC Address before trying to hook up the router and print the page for future steps.

  1. Click on your Command Prompt icon or Select Run and type CMD
  2. Type IPCONFIG /ALL on the command prompt line
  3. Print the Box and Pay special note to the Physical Address

Connecting your Cable modem to the Router

 

1. First connect your Cable modem without the router and check that you can get Online.

2. If you cannot connect at this point contact Rogers.

3. If you got online unplug the ethernet cable that connects to your high speed modem from the back of your computer or from the USB cable (Note: not recomended to use USB with Rogers).

4. Take the connection that you just unplugged from the back of your computer and connect it to the port marked WAN on the back of the router.

5. Purchase a new Ethernet Cable and plug it into port closest to the WAN port, or into the LAN port usually labeled port # 4.

6. On the front of the router.   The following lights should be illuminated:

  • Power
  • WAN Link
  • Link/Act

7. Hold the Reset button on the back router for 30 seconds.

8. Restart your computer to continue.

 

Configuring the Router

1. Open Internet ExplMarch 25, 2005/products/firefox/" target="_blank">Firefox Browser

2. Type http://192.168.1.1 into the address bar

3. An authentication window will appear.

4. Skip user name and type admin for password lowercase (admin is default for linksys routers)

5. Ensure Obtain an IP Address Automatically is selected on the first page.

6. Click on the Advanced tab.

7. Click on the Mac Addr. Clone .

8. When the page loads, input the Adapter/Physical Address you made earlier and input it into the proper fields.

9. Click Apply .

 

Finishing the Setup

 

1. Shut down your Computer.

2. Unplug the power from the back of the router.

3. Unplug the power from the modem.

4. Wait for 30 second.

5. Power up the modem.

6. Wait for the lights to stop blinking.

7. Power up the router.

8. Start up your computer.

9. Verify your conection has been made.

* Note with Rogers if you purchase your own modem you get the Extreme High Speeds of 5MB a Second. The Modem must be DOCSIS Compliant. Your monthly bill remains the same.
