A Review of Thank-you M'am

The lessons and advice a person gets from a person from the past can change their lives for the better. Langston Hughes' short story ,"Thank-You Ma'am was first published in 1958 and shows how good advice helps a teenage boy named Roger.
Roger needs money and decides to rob an un-suspecting person. Little does he know that he is planning to rob the wrong person.

Mrs. Jones gets very upset with him, but her anger does not casue her to turn the boy in to the police.

She takes him home and has a long talk with him, letting him know that he should not steal. She also gives him something to eat and more advice.

The moral of the story makes it FLAMING.

What happens to dream deferred? When a child has no one to turn to in life and tries to grow up alone in this cold world? Langston Hughes' touching short story is a timeless and sympathetic illustration of an important life lesson.

Roger is a misguided youth and Mrs. Luella Bated Washington Jones, a rather large woman, both having nothing in common. They find each other in the most unlikely way. The time is 11:00 p.m. on a desolate street corner. Roger's goal-to snatch her purse.

When their paths cross they both learn from each other. As he attempts to snatch her purse, she thinks quickly and knocks him down. The boy gets up with fear in his eyes. Mrs. Jones has other intentions.

"Thank-You Ma'am is a wonderfully written and emotionally touching story. Despite that fact that Roger is a common ruffian it proves there is something good in everyone. Hughes' story will appeal to everyone.
