A match made in the Dreaming
Looking for signs of similarities between an extended Hollower Paradigma I ran across a few ideas on Changelings and how they work magick. For one, Changelings have a magickal system that is all but simple. Its about as complex as it gets and what a better way for a Hollower to do magick then by mimicking some of the antics of a Changeling. The following is my attempt to make a cross-over between the two for all those Hollowers who might want to call on some extraordinary help. Some among the Hermetic Order might consider the Changelings to be weird practitioners of Chaos Magick if they exist at all and since the more powerful ones near bedlam when they get too involved I wouldn't be surprised. Yet here I think a person could do a little re-evaluating. Changeling magick is a bit odd and if you happen to be a Changeling who believes that they really don't belong on this decomposing clump of leftover nightmares, then chances are you might have a Hollower for a friend. Some of the main things in common in their paradigms that I can point out would be the following:
Hollowers & Changelings believe in personal identity and try to live a Cool & Glamour filled life.
Hollowers believe a meaningless world will lead to Oblivion while the Changelings believe having nothing left to believe in, that which would contain meaning, would lead to eternal banality, or Oblivion.
Both Hollowers and Changelings put meaning into out of the ordinary keep sakes which they use in their magick at times.
Both believe that the destruction of an expression of true art is banal and wrong.
Both Hollowers and Changelings lack a set Theology and rather present a craft or personal outlook per individual.
Both Hollowers and Changelings seek a return to earlier times such as the romantic ages when dreams and meaning were as crisp in the air as the smog is now in some which will go un-mentioned cities of our blessed world.
.....And of course the list goes on and on. So what are the differences between these two groups. I would point out that one originally came from Arcadia and another originated out of the darkness of the human spirit. Maybe the hollowers could be considered the 'Earth version' of Changelings? Its something to consider anyhow. But whats more important I would consider is just whats so important about comparing and contrasting the two groups? Well for one it could revolutionize magick as we all know it. Plus if the two groups were willing to accept eachother
they might be strong enough to keep the present reality from completely falling apart. What is more interesting is that Changelings don't suffer from paradox but must work within the confines of banality to regain the ever seeping away Glamour that keeps their dreams alive. I would assume Hollowers would have a similar outlook except that they do suffer from paradox and banality only gives them a lower spot on the social ladder. Of course a true Changeling won't really die from banality unless something permanent is done. Truthfully I doubt that many Changelings consider banality in such direct tones. I would only guess that a Changelings lost their amazingly coincidental magickal abilities if they ever stopped believing that they could do such a thing. Something Hollowers must face as well at just an extreme penalty. In fact, all mages would suffer from a lack in self confidence and if one lack self confidence they would also lack a good sense of personal identity, no matter how far out that might be. They would begin to question if what they were doing was what they really wanted to do or even if they could remember just what it was they wanted to do in the first place. So, just exactly how then do mages suffer from banality in comparison to the Changelings. Well like I said, a lower social status is a good clue but what else. Most likely there is a chance for a higher range of paradox as well. If a mage doesn't really believe that what they are doing is possible it just simply isn't. Paradox will of course occur and this doesn't have to be as vulgar as some mage books make them out to be. In fact, some paradox effects can be extremely subtle, and most are in a good chronicle anyhow. So what does this all boil down to? Changelings and Mages, especially Hollowers however I would say the Dreamspeakers and Verbena come pretty near as well, are linked in very strong ways. Its only really a difference in Paradigma and that is always subject to change. Perhaps then I should say hence the name Change-lings.......
