The vet does everything that he can over the next three hours, but it become apparent that this little girl is not going to survive.

At this stage you elect that the best thing that can be done is to put the little pup to sleep. This is one of the hardest decisions you've ever had to make in your life.

The vet asks you if you want to leave the room while she does it, but you elect to stay, holding the pup while she finds a vein in her little leg.

She breathes one last breath, and within seconds, Foxy is dead.

The vet looks at you grimly and leave the room. She can hear you sobbing while she waits patiently for you. As you leave, the vet hands you the bill. You don't even look at it, but put it in your back pocket. You leave, feeling as if you have no heart left, and your poor puppy, now dead, wrapped in a towel you carry in your left hand. For the rest of your life you will wonder if you couldn't have done more to save her. Oh God, why does it have to be so damn hard, you ask.

You take Foxy home to bury.
