The journey continues.........You take Chickie to the vet. The vet does a swab of that strange smelly liquid coming out of her rear end. She takes Chickie's temperature, and it is high. She quickly rushes the sample off to the laboratory, but advises you that she has seen this before, and it does not look good from her experience. She says that you can wait for the results of the lab report before starting treatment, or you can commence action immediately to try to clear up the infection. She recommends a complete clean out of Chickie's insides, and a large does of penicillin, and she wants to keep her at the surgery overnight. You agree with the vet, and immediately action begins. The vet advises you that she believes that Chickie has picked up a sexually transmitted disease from Barry. You tell her that Barry looked very healthy and are confused how this could have happened. The vet looks at you carefully through her glasses and gives you a look that you know means, "you should have known better". All of a sudden you feel very guilty. The vet advises you that this disease is very common and invariably the dog has not sperm that would even be capable of fertilising eggs. So, you think to yourself, I've just paid Harry $100 to get his dog to give my precious bitch an STD, and he had absolutely no chance of ever making her pregnant anyway. Your vet, not one to hold back on the bad news, also advises you, that your bitch will be unlikely to ever conceive herself again, given the complications that often result from this type of infection. The vet offers you a cup of tea which you glady accept. Then your vet reaches into her drawer and pulls out information on breeding golden retrievers. You quickly glance through, and your hands start shaking. Nobody ever told me about all this, you say to yourself. You never realised all the health problems that can result. The vet leaves you and Chickie for a few minutes. Your hands are shaking so badly by now that you can't even pick up your cup of tea. Your vet has just given you quote for what she estimates Chickie's charges will be. After this whole exercise is finished you will be out of pocked $659. You decide at this point, that this is just not worth breeding Chickie for, and you suggest to the vet that she spays her. The vet agrees that this, although not absolutely promising to clear everything up, will give Chickie, along with the other treatment, her best chance of survival.
Decision PointAt this point, there is no decision. Your Chickie is far to precious. You firstly ring Harry to tell him what has happened (although you know you can't get your money back from him), and then you click here to proceed.
