Virtual BreedingbyJane M Johnson |

The journey continues.........The nurse advises you what to do - which turns out to be not a lot initially except watch. Firstly they give your precious Chickie an injection to make her sleep. They shave her front left leg and put an IV drip in there. They put some sort of contraption down her throat to ensure that she can breathe, and pull her tongue out of her mouth, so it lolls aimlessly and pathetically on one side, so that she won't swallow it. Next, they shave a big hunk of her fur off her underbelly so that they can cut her open. It looks to you like they have made a huge incision into her, but understand that this is necessary so that the required access can be gained. The vet quickly finds the puppy that was blocking proceedings. This puppy is dead and has been for some time. All of a sudden, the finality of this puppy's death strikes you and a tear forms in your eye. However, there doesn't look like there will be any time for grieving. Both the vet and the nurse quicken pace markedly at this point, and their discussion is not encouraging. The vet looks at you, and says that things are not good. There is no way that Chickie was ever going to naturally have those pups while there was one stuck dead puppy in the way. He advises you that it is more than likely that you will be needed to help revive other puppies. The situation is glum.
