As you can see, this is a slow deck with many unique combo possibilities, the #1 most important being Light of Day & Darkest Hour. It’s best if I can get the combo out on turn 2 with a Dark Ritual. Once that’s out of the way, I have all day to wreck havoc on my opponent or just gain life like crazy until I get to Test of Endurance. The Anvil, Howling Mine, and Land Tax (or Land Pimp, as I all it) get cards built up in my hand for life gaining with Ivory tower and Gerrard’s Wisdom. All of that card drawing and discarding also sets off the 2 Words, Megrim, Confessor, and Iron Maiden. Ivory Mask was thrown in to prevent burn, and Planar Collapse is a nice, cheap Wrath of God if I’m having trouble getting out my Light & Dark combo. Spreading Plague also compliments Darkest Hour when I actually play a creature, destroying theirs. I saw the Diabolic Intent & Academy Rector combo in Sideboard Magazine and knew right away it was for this deck, especially since it can be hard to get to the right combo cards I’m looking for in a 90-card deck. To date, I have decked myself only once while playing this deck.
