Economical cruise: 439Kts, at30,000ft - Accomodation: 8+138 (Business + econ.) - I-STCC, delivered on 10-3-2001

The 737-400 was formally launched in June 1986 . Rollout of the first 737-400 was Jan. 26, 1988. Following an 8-month flight-test program, first delivery was Sept. 15, 1988. The engines that power the 737-400 are the CFM56-3, built by CFM International, a company owned by General Electric of the United States and Snecma of France. The engine is a high-bypass-ratio powerplant rated at 22,000 pounds thrust and offers a 19 percent fuel burn improvement over engines powering early models of the 737 and 727. The quietness of takeoffs is surprising: generally the takeoff noise cannot be heard outside of the airport boundaries. Much of the noise reduction and low fuel consumption of the 737-400 is because of this superior engine.

The OneEleven can trace its origins back to the proposed Hunting H.107 jet airliner project of 1956. Protracted development followed, but by 1961, when Hunting had been absorbed into British Aircraft Corporation (BAC), a larger RollsRoyce Spey turbofan powered design was finalised. British United Airways placed a launch order for 10 of the new jets, then known as the BAC.111, in May 1961. The new aircraft took to the skies for the first time on August 20 1963, while the first production Series 200 first flew on December 19 1963. Certification was eventually awarded on April 6 1965, following a troubled flight test program, during which one prototype crashed with the loss of its crew, the cause attributed to deep stall from the rear engine and the Ttail configuration. With the deep stall issue resolved, the BAC.111 entered service on April 7 1965. By the way... the first passenger flight was London Gatwick - Genoa!!!

I-STCB is the new reg. of G-AYOP, originary bough by CourtLine and then she flew for BritishCaledonian named "Isle of Hoy". She ended up flying for European Aviation. Although BAC 1-11s may not fly in Europe any more due to noise restriction rules. VirtualStarAirways have a special permission to fly such planes (...due to the virtual world and virtual noise!!!)
