General Rule of Discipleship

To witness to Jesus Christ in the world, and to follow his teachings through acts of compassion, justice, worship and devotion, under the guidance of the Holy Spirit. -- John Wesley

Preamble

As one saved by grace through my faith in Christ Jesus and desiring to love My Lord with all my heart, soul, mind and strength, I hereby dedicate myself as a living sacrifice, which is my reasonable service.  I will no longer be conformed to this world, but to be transformed by the renewing of my mind through God's Word; but thinking soberly according to the faith I've received from God I will seek to love my neighbor as myself.  I will walk worthy of the vocation wherewith I have been called with all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing my sisters in love; endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.  For there is one body, and one Spirit, even as I am called in one hope of my calling; one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in us all.  I will endeavor to use my time and talents that God has blessed me with to carry out the General Rule of Discipleship for the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ:  till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ:  that we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive;  But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ:  From whom the whole body fitly joined together and compacted by that which every joint supplieth, according to the effectual working in the measure of every part, maketh increase of the body unto the edifying of itself in love. This I say therefore, and testify in the Lord by His grace alone.
