Shri Rama, the epitome of idealism & discipline, used to have utmost self-control, humbleness and righteousness while staying with Vishwamitra -his educational teacher (Guru). He used to be very diligent & enthusiastic while serving his Guru. When Vishwamitra took Shri Rama to attend the Swayamamwara (the ceremony in which the princess choses her bridegroom from a group of invited men) of Sita, he silently kept observing other invited kings making efforts to lift the bow-arch one by one. Only when Vishwamitra instructed him to lift the bow-arch, he got up & bowed to his Guru, and then lifted up the arch. Note: Sita's father, King Janaka, had announced that who so ever is able to lift the heavy bow-arch will be able to marry Sita. How intelligent & alert Shri Rama is for giving due respect to his SatGurudev is evident from the example when his Guru Vashishtha Maharaj comes to his fort to impart kingship related knowledge to Shri Rama. As soon as Shri Rama got the information about the arrival of Vashishtha Maharaj, he immediately went to the main door of the courtyard along with Sita & welcomed Vashishtha Maharaj. He bowed to Vashishtha & worshipped his feet. Thereafter, with devoted feelings he said: "Oh Great One! You have arrived for our good. Your auspicious arrival has made our home so pure. You took the trouble of coming here, but if you would have sent a message for me, then this servant of yours would have appeared in front of you." Thus Shri Rama used to keep his Guru satisfied with such humble devotion. |
