ORANG WILDLIFE SANCTUARY

 

                Covering an area of 72 sq. kms. Orang Wildlife Sanctuary is a miniature Kaziranga. It is situated on the north bank of river Brahmaputra. The animals and birds to be seen in the sanctuary are the great indian one-horned Rhinoceros, Elephant, Leopard, Sambar,Gibon, Barking Deer, tiger and varieties of water birds, Green Pigeon, Florican, Teal, Gees etc..........

How to get there

               Orang is 150 kms. from Guwahati and 32 kms. from Tezpur by road. The nearest Airport is Saloni, (Tezpur) and the nearest Railhead is Rongapara. Both Govt. and private buses play regularly from Guwahati....

Where to stay

               As there is only a small Forest Rest House, having limited capacity, inside the forest, tourists are therefore, requested to visit orang from Tezpur. For comfortable stay there is a Govt, tourist lodge. Govt. Circuit Houses and other private hotels of moderate rates at Tezpur. For reservation in the Forest Rest House, please contect - THE DIVISIONAL FOREST OFFICER, WESTERN ASSAM WILD LIFE DIVISION, TEZPUR, SONITPUR, ASSAM.
