Lee Berthiaume's Home Page
My name is Lee Berthiaume and I am a reporter.

With close to four years experience, I have become a well-rounded, hard-working, award-winning writer who knows how to find the stories and how to tell them.

I am currently based in Phnom Penh, Cambodia where I am working as an associate editor with the Cambodia Daily after being drawn by the promise of adventure, excitement and the chance to make a real difference in a country that is trying to heal itself in the aftermath of decades of war.

Adventure and excitement are nothing new to me.

Beginning in April 2002, I worked as the Woodstock Sentinel-Review's crime reporter - the position that earned me an Edward Goff Penny Memorial Award for Young Canadian Journalists in 2003.

I left the paper to travel through southern Africa in December 2002 where I worked for a non-government organization in Durban for five months before spending two months in Harare, Zimbabwe doing freelance work for the independent weekly The Standard.

Upon my return to Canada in November 2003, I earned a job with the
Peterborough Examiner where I was first the education reporter before moving onto the crime beat.

I have been with the Cambodia Daily, where I write on environmental and human rights issues as well as some crime, since November 2004. The position is a one-year contract and my contract allows me to freelance at will.

Besides my positions at various papers, I have freelanced for the Citizen and the South African
Mail & Guardian and Globe and Mail newspapers and several magazines.

My skills and abilities are fairly extensive and are a testament to my flexibility and adaptability in almost any situation. Not only am I an award-winning writer, I'm a skilled photographer familiar with a variety of equipment. I am adept at layout and production of using a variety of platforms and programs including Quark Xpress, Adobe Photoshop and Dreamweaver.

I also have a diploma in computer programming and Web site design which are a significant advantage in today's new age media. I have also worked in mechanical engineering, database design and public relations.

With these skills and my self-motivation, adaptability and drive, I believe I am an asset in any situation.
