NOTE: Anna’s sister Donya wrote this letter. Originally, we thought a man wrote the letter because the return address includes the name Vasiliy Petrovich Yanik. This may have been a brother of Anna & Donya. Perhaps Donya was living with a relative due her household circumstances mentioned below. This letter was translated from Ukrainian in May 2001.
Donya’s Letter
20 July 1964
My dear sister! I want to tell you a little about me – I am still alive, but I don’t want to wish such a health to you. Could you send me my Olya’s address because here I had a fire in the house and I lost her address in that fire. Also I’m asking you, sister, would you send me pictures of your grandchildren and sons-in-law because when I’m looking at you – I’m feeling very good – and for me it’s the same like I would be talking to you. Please let me know, how are you? Is it raining there? This year we don’t have any rain here and it’s very hot. I’m ending my letter and again asking you for Olya’s address, please. Congratulations and best wishes to you and all your relatives.
Your sister wrote this letter, and please, answer soon.
