Harmony 3 - Forms

 

Symmetrical Binary:

               This piece is in symmetrical binary form.  It is composed with a statement and a response which are of the same length.  Both the statement (A) and the response (B) are _____ bars long.

 

 

Asymmetrical Binary:

               This piece is in asymmetrical binary form.  It is composed with a statement and a response which are of different length.  The statement (A) is _____ bars long, while the response (B) is _____ bars long.

 

 

Rounded Binary:

               This piece is in rounded binary form.  It is composed with a statement (A), a digression (B) and a restatement (a).  The restatement (a) begins like the statement (A) but is:

               i) cut short.

               ii) altered to stay in the home key.

               iii) altered to close with a perfect cadence.

 

 

Ternary:

               This piece is in ternary form.  It begins with a statement (A), followed by a digression (B), and finally a restatement (A).

 

 

Ternary:

               This piece is in ternary form.  It begins with a statement (A), followed by a digression (B).  The D.C. al Fine at the end of the digression indicates that the statement is to be repeated and that the piece ends after this restatement (A) at Fine.
