Harmony 4: What does this
accidental mean??
An
accidental CANNOT BE IGNORED!! You must explain why there is, all of a sudden,
an accidental on the page. This can
easily be done if you study the following guidelines.
A Raised accidental usually means:
1) the leading-note of a minor
key
2) the leading-note of a new key
3) a non-chord note (only on a weak part of a beat and if none of the
above apply)
4) the middle note of a Tierce de
Picardie (very rare in Harmony 4)
A Lowered accidental usually means:
1) the subdominant (note IV) of a
new key (within a V7 or its inversion of a new key)
2) the last note of a VII
diminished 7 chord in a major key
3) a non-chord note (again, only
on a weak part of a beat)
