Harmony 4: Analyzing Forms

 

Rondo Form:

 

               1. Name the home key (look at the final cadence).

               2. Find all the places where A occurs (at least three times).  Mark them with A1, A2, A3,

                   etc.  Note that D.C. al fine at the end of a piece often = A.

               3. Find the episodes between the A theme (B1, B2, C, etc. depending on the piece).

               4. See if there is a coda.  If there is, then label it.           

               5. Name major key changes. (for instance, B might be in a new key)

               6. Name the key and cadence at the end of each section, including the coda.
