Big Fish

how i've longed to see this!!!  from tim burton (one of my fav directors), to the "tree branches" poster (which i've ordered btw), to a soundtrack by danny elfman (composer of <<edward scissorhands>>), to ewan mcgregor (both bb and i agreed that he's not 靚仔, but still very 討好)...everything seems just perfect.  can't blame my anticipation, can you?  so when it's finally shown in hk theatres, there's certainly no time for me to loose.  (and so the crazy bb and i rushed to ifc palace right after work and watched 2 movies in a row...)

and it was worth it.  tim burton maintains his usual ridiculousness,  his wierd sense of humor, and slightly melancholy style.  (suddenly have a thought of how great it will be if tim burton x sandman.  crossover .)

this movie is about the life of a man who lives in his fantasies.  timeline crossovers, lies (exaggerations, rather) and realty mingles, dreams and real life merges, all add up to a fairytale like story well told.  and as coincidental as it can be, this movie IS about story-telling!!

yet edward bloom didn’t live through his adventures just by day-dreaming.  he possesses the determination which no man has, and in some way or another, which i lack.  “the more difficult something became, the more rewarding it was in the end.” i should really learn from that, as i give up on things almost always too soon.  examples will be my job, websites, and instruments.  took interest on these almost instantly, but never have the patience to keep up with it.  shame on me.

i like it each and every time when edward says he knows he should give up, but hasn’t: “there comes a point where a reasonable man will swallow his pride and admit he’s made a terrible mistake. the truth is, i was never a reasonable man.” said when he encountered a “JUMPING SPIDER” sign in the forest.  and when he first learnt that sandra is engaged:  “there’s a time when a man needs to fight, and a time when he needs to accept that his destiny is lost, that the ship has sailed, and that only a fool would continue.  the truth is, i’ve always been a fool.”  i guess i’m somewhat like him, my mum always says i’m different from others in that i “勇於改過  永不認錯”, while others act the other way around.  yup, i’m that stubborn.  三歲定八”, so you won’t be too surprised now.
