i particularly like how the movie concludes. it has an excellent ending that not only wraps up all the bits and pieces of the movie, but also leads to alot of meaningful “points”.

the way will “made up” his father’s death is, to me, very touching. all these years he’s more or less ignored his father. all these years he has grown to become desensitized by his father’s “humour” and tall stories. but at the very end, at the time when it counts the most, it turns out that throughout the years, he has listened...and remembers. it’s some sort of 安慰. i hope i can be lucky enough to feel that way in my lifetime.

the funeral has a special meaning too. all the people ed mentioned in his stories, some true but mostly exaggerated, appearing one by one, gathering around to remember edward bloom. in some way, his death brought these different people together. his death brought about the bond between these people who would, otherwise, never be formed if it wasn’t for this remarkable man. it reminds me of the words dav said to me when i told him i shouldn’t be writing useless moviews. he said, “if the filmmakers didn’t make these movies, i won’t have anything to write about. if i haven’t written any reviews, he won’t take to time to write anything in response to them.” so i guess i kinda caused him to practice his writing~ :P but the idea is, you can never guessed the cause and effect of things, be it as tiny and insignificant as doing some writing, or as influential as, oh i don’t know, realizing the meaning of life. cause and effect...that’s the idea behind it.

before i finish, i’ll end this moview with the following quote, which i think is quite meaningful. maybe it’ll cause someone reading this to learn a little something more about life.

have you ever heard a joke so many times you’ve forgotten why it’s funny? but then you hear it again and suddenly it’s new. you remember why you loved it in the first place.”
