Cookie’s Fortune

a witty comedy which I enjoyed a lot.  the title of the movie is interesting enough.  it’s a nice pun, as the story  evolves around the inheritance of an old lady named cookie.

again, i didn’t know the cast was this great when I bought the dvd (i just looked at the synopsis at the back of the package).  glenn close alone will have been great enough, and together with julianne moore and liv taylor, the cast is just matchless.  (and their accents!!  never quite understood how actors/actresses can adopt a totally different accents with such ease.)  never realized that julianne moore is quite so pretty (her salome 造型is a killer!).  her out-of-this-world (or out-of-her-mind?) attitude is kinda intriguing, and provides an interesting contrast to the boldness of glenn close.

there isn’t much big complicated ideas behind the plots that you need to grab while watching it.  you already knew who did what (no “who’s done it?” guesses)  and what remains is to see how the whole issue is resolved.  as a person who likes to guess the murderer (and I’m pretty good at it~), i am still very much amused while watching the whole process.  as for the theme, i would have to say it’s “greed”  and “pride” instead of the “protectiveness of the family name” as claimed by camille (glenn close).  but there’s not much of a theme to talk about anways.  so i’ll just skip it.

to conclude, the movie is an all around enjoyable:  one that you can enjoy with not much thinking but not as mindless as many of the hollywood comedies.
