finally got to see this on pearl 930 yesterday nite. what a disappointment!! i mean, it’s not bad at all, but
the praise given to it by alot of my
friends aren’t justified...(sorry guys).
first of all, the storyboard isn’t
great.ok,
it’s about love. doesn’t sound surprising (or
exciting).and maybe i’m
out of touch with love for so long, i
couldn’t really feel why they fall in love in the first
place. but
the theme “the greatest thing you’ll ever learn is
just to love and be loved in return” is quite good, and
very true as well. i’ve come to know
a person (let’s not mention names) who just don’t
get it, who’ve been so lucky to be loved so dearly, but not
know to love in return. i just pity him.
seeing (and hearing) nicole
kidman sing is so wierd.
gives
me a creepy feeling. her voice is ok actually, but the way she
mouths the lyrics...look so fake.
i just
don’t like it. ewan mcgregor’s singing, on the other hand,
is quite good. (i kept on thinking
where i’ve seen him before, and
finally remember he’s our beloved obi-wan. just
love him.yup, i’m
biased.)actually, the sidekicks are excellent,
especially the one playing zidler (“the
show must go on...”, reminds me of the managers in “phantom”
singing “prime madonna”). however,
the idea of integrating well-known songs, all mingled together,
seems to me too much of a mess.
finally,
it’s a pity that the real moulin
rouge in paris (where i visited in summer 2002) is already in near ruins,
and has completely lost its former, glorious “spectacle”
( from “spectacular spectacular”,
get it?!). time is so very merciless.
