have been warned about the blood shed and violent
scenes, but still weren’t able to keep my eyes open on
several scenes. suddenly realized how familiar i was with the New Testament of the
Bible. i never knew i can recall the events so
well…maybe it’s due to every sunday masses i attended (when i was small, i’ve skipped a lot of
masses while growing up. **shameful**) i even get to spread the message while
discussing the movie with cal and joseph (even
though i still haven’t seen it at
that time.) but still, there’s some details i don’t
remember, and of course, i asked my mum
to help me remember. i know i should have gone to church more often, but
it’s a lot more helpful and meaningful with my mum’s
guidance.
for those who don’t really know the life
of Jesus and the Bible, it may be quite boring and confusing to
watch a 2-hour movie about his crucification.
for me, the whole movie
is so suffocating and i kept on wanting
it to end. it’s not because it’s not good ---
its just too real. maybe that’s the very effect the
director (mel gibson)
wants to have on the audience. that’s what he wants the
audience to experience --- the unbearable suffering of
Christ. it’s not even bearable to watch, it’s unimaginable how Jesus could
get through it. we have to remember that at that time, Jesus
was only a human being. He has flesh and pain just like each one of us. He could
easily give up and abandon God by saying He’s not the Son
of God. it’s
His will and faith that led Him through the sufferings.
it’s a good thing that this movie came about
during easter time. it
reminds people of the importance of one’s spiritual
needs. at
least it has such an effect on me.
side topic 1: never understand
the articles usage in the movie title. “the
passion of christ” or “passion
of christ” are both fine, but “the
christ”?? sounds
weird to me.
side topic 2: kept on thinking about where i’ve seen the actress playing mary madelene. i must have seen her from another movie
recently (dvd? vcd?
pearl 930??), but i just can’t
recall…
