well, we all know what to expect from
shrek2. the
usual “cast”, with the not-so-appealing shrek & his new ogre wife. this
one, of course, is a must-watch for me, even though i didn’t expect too much from it. maybe
it’s ‘cause i was watching
it alone, didn’t really feel like laughing out loud. but to
my surprise, this is quite appealing, and i
can say it’s even better than its predecessor (if only i can remember the first one…hehe, so this comment is quite inaccurate). now
that i’ve looked closely, its CG
is really quite remarkable. (hey, afterall
i’m still a comp sci grad!!) i’ve
always like <<monsters, inc.>> better when <<shrek>> beat it for best animation in oscar in 2002. but now
i see why, and it’s really quite
worth it.
and it’s obvious that much thought have
been put into all the fairy-tale analogies to hollywood
“fairy-tales” (loved that “far far away” sign!!). don’t
everyone just love pinocchio’s
mission impossible posture (and isn’t it thoughtful, making
such intelligent use of the puppet’s strings)? and the little things like when
one of the three blind mice bump into shrek’s
door, the gates to mansions of “celebrities” like
those of beverley hills, the versace store (forgot how they “translate”
the name), the limousine cartridge, and people running from a starbucks to another one right across the
street (oh my god how i laughed out
loud there). those little details are the ones i most appreciate. (i would very much like to see it again
if i got the chance, just for those
little details. :P )
and of course, can’t forget to mention the
newest addition to the team --- puss in boots. again,
it’s not much fun for those who haven’t read these
nurseries (or for those who don’t get the hollywood-mockery humour.) and antonio banderos as
puss’ voice is just excellent. i just love that cat. it’s
a bit of a relief for those of us who’re just a bit tired
of the too-eddie-murphy-like donkey.
the ending where both
of them remain to be ogres is, i guess,
predictable for everyone. how else will they continue to make shrek3?!
oh, don’t forget
to stay behind the credits to see donkey and dragon’s
mutant babies!!
