Scientific research, and
operational support of that research, are the principal activities
supported by the United States Government in Antarctica. The goals are to
expand fundamental knowledge of the region, to foster research on global
and regional problems of current scientific importance, and to utilize the
region as a platform or base from which to support research. The U.S.
Antarctic Program supports only that research that can be done exclusively
in Antarctica or that can be done best from Antarctica.

U.S. EPA Brownfields
Technology Support Center
Coordinated
through EPA’s Technology Innovation Office, the Brownfields Technology
Support Center ensures that Brownfields decision makers are aware of the
full range of technologies available to make informed or “smart”
technology decisions for their sites. As a public service, the Center
provides, at no cost to localities, a readily accessible resource for
unbiased assessments and supporting information on options relevant to
specific sites. The center also provides a technology-oriented review
process for investigation and clean-up plans for these sites. EPA Contact:

Wilderness
Society
In 1935, a small but dedicated
group of conservationists formed the Wilderness Society to protect and
preserve the nation's wild places before they vanished forever. They put
out an urgent call, as we do today, for "spirited people who will fight
for the freedom of the wilderness." Today, the Wilderness Society is a
non-profit membership organization devoted to preserving wilderness and
wildlife, protecting America's prime forests, parks, rivers, deserts and
shorelands, and fostering an American land ethic.
