Retreat At Vivekavana Solitude Grove

  1. Devotees wishing to spend a retreat at Vivekavana Solitude Grove should imform the resident monk or the committee in writing, verbally or by phone two weeks in advance before their coming, at the address below:

The committee will approve or disapprove the stay on the advice of the Ven. Resident monk and reply to the devotee concerned.

  1. Applicants with history of mental disorder and contagious diseases, drug addicts, mentally retareded persons and oaw offenders may not be accepted.
  2. Devotees are required to arrange their own transport to and from Solitude Grove during their retreat.
  3. Devotees are advised to bring their own personal belongings: white attire (loose fitting long trousers or sarong and a white T-shirt would be suitable. Sleeveless shirts, tight-fitting, transparent dresses and shorts are not suitable), toothbrush and toothpaste, towel, soap, comb, alarm clock, torch light etc. Devotees are advised not to bring in valuables or large sums of money. The managing committee will not be held responsible for any loss during retreat.
  4. Maximum length of stay (retreat) at the Grove will be two weeks. Extension of stay may be granted by the Ven. Resident monk. All yogis will abide by the rules and regulations. Failure to do so will have their retreat terminated by the committee upon consultation with the resident monk.
  5. Devotees are not allowed to leave the Grove during retreat. If they have to do so for certain reason, please obtain permission from the Ven. Resident monk.
  6. No visitors are allowed into the yogis?hibar; room and meditation hall.
  7. No fees will be charged for all yogis, but donations are welcomed for the maintenance and development purposes.
  8. The co-operation of yogis are required in the preparation of meals in the kitchen at Dana Sala. Yogis may help at these hours:

Breakfast 5:00- 6:00 a.m.

Lunch 9:00 -10:00 a.m.

  1. Compulsory meditation session for every yogi at the Mediation Hall at 8:30 a.m. ¨C10:30 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. ¨C 5:00 p.m. , unless the sessions are changed by the Ven. resident monk.
  2. Yogis should keep their room/kuti clean and tidy. At the end of their retreat, all yogis are required to wash their blankets and pillow cases and to return their mats to their original places in dormitory and key to the office.

Rules and Regulation to be observed by all Yogis practicing at this Vivekavana Solitude Grove

  1. It is compulsory for yogis to observe at least eight precepts and to practise Buddhist meditation in accordance with Teaching of Buddha.
  2. A precept day commences at 7:00 a.m. to ends at 7:00 a.m. on the following day.
  3. A yogis must fill up a registration form which will be reviewed by the resident monks before approval is granted for a yogi to stay on and practise at this Solitude Grove.
  4. Throughout their stay at this Solitude Grove, all yogis must practise punctually and be aware of the following schedule:

4:00 a.m.

Waking up mindfully and doing walking and sitting meditation individually

5:30 a.m.

Morning chanting and group meditation

6:45 a.m.

Breakfast (Mindfully walk to the dining hall)

7:30- 8:30 a.m.

Housekeeping (Clean up rooms/compound/washrooms)

8:30- 10:30 a.m.

Walking/Sitting meditation/Voluntary servise

10:30- 11:30 a.m.

Walk mindfully to the Dana Sala to prepare and have lunch

12:00- 1:30 p.m.

Rest/Meditation

2:00- 5:00 p.m.

Formal meditation at the Meditation Hall/Research on the discourses/Dhamma talk.

7:30- 9:00 p.m.

Evening chanting and group meditation

9:00 p.m

Rest

  1. Yogis will report their experiences to the teacher during interviews which will be scheduled occasionally.
  2. At the end of their stay, before yogis leave this Grove, they must clean up their rooms (wipe platform,mop floor, scrub basin and etc.) and wash up all washable items (pillow case, blanket etc.)
  3. Please maintain cleanliness of all other facilities available for your use at this Grove and put back to the original place after used.
  4. Please be thrifty and avoid wastage while using utilities like water and electricity. Switch on the lights or light the candles at appropriate hours. Please put out the lights or candles before you leave your room. The last yogi must ensure that all lights are put out before he or she leaves the meditation hall/shrine hall/library/dining hall.
  5. Please maintain full awareness as you carry out your daily activities and avoid excessive talking and making loud noises.
  6. Report to the teacher when you feel any unbearable discomfort which requires immediate medical attention.
