Choirs (Vivian)
The first time I joined the choirs was in my second Sunday worship I attended in Canada. My friend asked me if I sang in choirs before, but I said 'never'. His surprise was not because of my beautiful voice (actually it’s awful), but my brave to sing in English choirs in my second week staying in Canada.
I never join the choirs before because my mother church prohibits this kind of activity. Our pastors think it’s kind of performance. I agreed at first but I learnt a new experience in choirs after four years being with them. At first - in my last year of study in Canada, my Germany friend asked me if I could introduce her to join the choirs in our church. She is a musician in German and has a very beautiful alto voice. A non-Christian but attending church regularly because of her job, she found that our choir’s director is very good in music. Actually, our choir’s director is a professor of music school in my University. I was struggling if I should introduce a non-Christian to join the choirs, which supposes to be worship by a group of Christian. At last, I failed to hold my belief and brought her in. Our choir’s director and the congregation of church admired of her performance very much and we applaused eventually after she sang, and indeed it’s kind of performance.
After I came back from Canada, I was attracted to the voice of choirs again. Even through I failed in voice test; they let me join the choirs because we only want to worship but not to perform. In one Sunday worship, we studied the scripture ...
How amazing is it? When the Israel faced the war, God setup a group of choirs but not army. How come the choirs can help the Israel to win the battle? The answer is simple - worship God! The spiritual battle is just the same as a lyric said -sing and worship God with your faith again and the evil’s power will frighten.
Now, let’s make the joyful noise together and worship our good Lord!
