<These are the pictures from the trip I just took with M.AFEC to the Brakna. We did trainings in 5 villages and in Bogh. They trained people on how to create their own savings and credit groups last year. This year Oxfam financed a follow-up trip.

baboon watching in nikolo komba

< In the first picture, the Bedik woman is mashing the roasted peanuts with a rolling pin. We rented this little motorcyle for a couple of days to visit the villages surrounding Kedougou in Southeast Senegal.
|
< These are pictures from the Bedik village of Iwel. They're hidden in the mountains and they are Christians- the Pulaar village at the bottom is Muslim. We spent the day with a family, drinking palmwine and eating millet with peanuts and rice with peanut sauce.

celebrating sengal soccer victory

< The kids on the street were celebrating Senegal winning one of the games of the Africa Cup. Hafia and Dindefallo are villages near the border with Guinea.
|
< The woman with the bone in her nose was a little camera shy at first, but then she wanted us to keep taking her picture once she could see herself with my digital camera. That was really fun- being able to take pictures and then showing people right away. Lamim was a guard in the Niokolo Koba Park. We ended up camping with him for one night- we went fishing and looking for monkeys and hippos and crocs.

camping with the construction crew
|
< We did Niokolo Koba the poor way- you're supposed to rent your own 4WD and hire a guide, but we just camped with these construction guys who were super cool, hiked and they gave us a ride in their cement mixing truck to Siminti, which is the resort in the park with the view of the River Gambia. From there we hitchiked with a French family of tourists out of the park to the next big town.
