Your assignment here is to write a “Parents guide to raising healthy children”  booklet.  You will work in groups of six pre-selected by the teacher.  Your guide must give advice to prospective parents to the questions / problems listed below.  Each person must be the PRIMARY AUTHOR EXACTLY TWO OF THE QUESTIONS.  YOU MUST HAVE PROOF TO EARN A GOOD GRADE FOR THE QUESTION (YOU MUST LIST YOUR SOURCE AT THE END OF YOUR ARTICLE). 

 

1.             Suggest some effective ways to discipline toddlers and young children.  What role, if any, should spanking play?

 

2.             How much TV should parents allow their infants and toddlers to watch?  Should there be a limit?  Should certain types of shows be off limits?

 

3.             What advice do you have for parents who need to use day care or babysitters for their very young children ages (6 weeks to 4 years old)?

 

4.             How can parents get their children to lead a healthy lifestyle?  How can they ensure that their kids eat a healthy, well balanced diet?  What role should exercise play?  How do you handle a child who is already too fat for their age?

 

5.             How can parents get their children to learn the social norms of behavior (good manners, social etiquette, sharing, etc.)?

 

6.             How can parents get their children / teenagers to make good decisions about right and wrong?

 

7.             How can parents help their children / teenagers develop a positive self-image and a healthy self-concept?

 

8.             How can parents effectively prevent their children / teenagers from drug & alcohol use and abuse?

 

9.             What advice do you have for parents talking to their sons and daughters about sex?  When should it be done?  What should be said?  Provide specific advice for a parent who wants to talk about it but are avoiding it because they do not know how to approach it.

 

10.           How can parents foster responsibility within their children?  Should teenagers work during school?  If so, should there be a limit to the hours?  Should young teenagers be allowed to get into cars with other teenagers who drive? 

 

11.           What advice would you offer a single parent (mom or dad) who was raising a child by themselves and wanted to have their own social life?  Should they allow their children to meet people that they are dating?  If so, at what point in the relationship should that occur?  How much contact should that person be allowed with the child?

 

12.           How can parents ensure that their children will have success in school and in their education?
