LESSON:                                                1                             

OBJECTIVE:                          Students will be able to demonstrate knowledge of the growth of sociology as a science by tracing its history.

 

PROCEDURE:                       Anticipatory Set:     Do people act differently in groups then they do

when they are alone?  Explain a time when you witnessed this.

 

                                                ** collect Psychology books and distribute Sociology books          #’s

1.             review midterm exams

2.             students are allowed to see their groups but no activity is done with them yet.

3.             students are given a person to research in class for 10 minutes (work individually using chap 1)

4.             students report back to class and teacher adds his two cents as the class together traces history of sociology.

LESSON:                                                2

                                               

OBJECTIVE:                          Students will be able to distinguish between the three major Sociological perspectives in Sociology by breaking them down in groups and presenting them to the class.

 

PROCEDURE:                       Anticipatory Set:     Did you ever look at something one way for a long time and suddenly saw it differently or maybe someone commented on it and it made you look at it from a totally NEW perspective?

5.        Teacher uses slideshow to introduce the three major sociological perspectives

6.        students work individually to understand the perspective and how it can be analyzed to break down the divorce rate in America

7.        Students then meet in groups with all others who had the same number & work to put together a presentation to the class.

10.     students meet in small groups to discuss the divorce rate explained in the book by one of the three perspectives.

OBJECTIVE:                          Students will begin to look at how groups operate by participating in group activities.

PROCEDURE:                       Anticipatory Set:     List some ways that you have seen people act when other people are around.

2.        raft & sharks activity (with towels)

3.        permanent group activity 1 SHARKS

4.        individuals write initial stuff for log

OBJECTIVE:                          Students will begin to look at how groups operate by participating in group activities.

PROCEDURE:                       Anticipatory Set:     Is adoption an important societal function? 

Explain why.

1.        teacher collects logs, grades and returns

2.        Teacher gives students questions to work on from chapter 1 (open ended from teachers guide)

3.        permanent groups meet for 2nd time “Homosexual adoption”

4.        students are given time to write about what they wish to include in their logs

5.        class will discuss the topic at large.

OBJECTIVE:                          Students will review the major concepts from the chapter & prepare for unit test.

PROCEDURE:                                                      

1.             review homework guides

2.             discuss what is meant by group dynamics

3.             groups decide how they will be best

3.             class discussion of questions that are not sure of

HOMEWORK:      study for 100 point test day 7

LESSON:                                                7

               

OBJECTIVE:                          Students will show their knowledge and understanding of the material in unit 1 by taking a written examination.

PROCEDURE:                                                                      

1.             students complete unit 1 test

2.             if time Journal # 2  “In what ways has your culture affected who you are today as a person?  Please provide specific details.”
