When Bob first told me that he was joining bikers at Newport Beach for the MS ride on down to San Diego, I was thinking of 25, or so, other peddlers. Boy was I wrong! There were over a 1,000 bike riders and 500 Other volunteers. They assembled in Newport from who knows where for this annual ride. Bob made this Newport to San Diego ride last year and received a yellow shirt indicating him as someone within the top 10 contributors. |
He was awarded another yellow top 10 shirt this year for his presentation of over $7,000.00 in contributions. The entire group collected over $620,000.00 this year for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society (NMSS). The peddlers were sent off Saturday morning in groups for the two legs on to San Diego. They would spend the first night in Carlsbad. The tour continued to Mission Beach in San Diego Sunday, and ended around noon. |

Cross the finish line, pickup up your medal, and have your picture taken under the balloons. |
There were two 18 wheelers standing by to carry all the bicycles back to Newport where the other riders started. Several busses were also standing by to transport the bicyclist. |
Bob rode 10 days and covered 660 miles. The longest leg was the 78 miles from Santa Cruz to Big Sur. The hardest from Big Sur to San Simeon. The shortest was the 48 miles of heavy stop and go traffic through Los Angeles from Venice to Newport Beach. Good work Bob! OK, Bob, you can change your socks now. |
