Chapter 2: When they thought the happiness would last

Kaoru woke up and felt sappy immediately, because he just had a thought that this moment was one of the happiest ones in his life, which he would give anything in the world for. The sight he had at the time, nevertheless, was the most beautiful one he had ever seen.

Toshiya curled up against him in his arms like a little kid. Bare tempting skin peeked out of the blanket. The short black hair was messed up —if possible— appealingly, with fringes covered half of his eyes. Kaoru’s attempt to move those fringes made Toshiya’s eyes fluttered open.

The younger boy blinked, focused his sight at the smiling Kaoru, recalled what has happened last night, and blushed. Kaoru neither resist the temptation to kiss those pink cheeks nor hold himself from asking, “Can we do it again?”

That earned a light smack on his head. “B-baka! What kind of first saying in the morning was that?!”

Kaoru just laughed and kissed the other’s pouty lips slightly. “Are you okay?”

Toshiya moved his body a little and winced. He, however, smiled and nodded while hiding the hint of pain on his face. “I’m fine.”

Of course Kaoru didn’t bite it. He frowned and his face was filled with concern. “Don’t lie to me… I’m sorry, I must’ve went a little overboard last night.” He reached out and started to move the blanket away. “Let me check—“

“No!” Swiftly Toshiya grabbed the blanket from Kaoru’s hand and covered his body, “I mean… no… I’m fine, really.”

A grin managed to creep on the older boy’s face, “You didn’t seem to mind me seeing everything last night…”

“I said I’m fine… You were not being overboard or anything… It-it was usual if someone get a little… sore, after… after their first time, right…?” Toshiya insisted in a red face and uncertain confidence. His hands still clutched the blanket tightly in order if Kaoru still intended to snatch it away.

Because he couldn’t resist the cuteness of Toshiya appeared in front of him, Kaoru pounced Toshiya and made him lay flat on his back. Toshiya let out a shriek which soon cut as his lips were locked with Kaoru’s.

A moan came out of Toshiya’s lips as a tongue explored his mouth thoroughly. The passionate kiss stayed for a while before Kaoru finally let go for he wouldn’t be able to stop himself if the kiss continued.

His heart thumped when he saw the expression on Toshiya’s face, breathless and flushed, with half-lidded eyes. He repeatedly reminded himself mentally that last night was Toshiya’s first time, and therefore Toshiya would not be ready for another round.

So, he hugged Toshiya tightly instead, burying the other’s head on his chest. “Aah… I love you, really really love you, Toshiya…” He loosened himself a little and asked seriously, “Is this real? Did you really accept me last night? Did you really say that you love me back? Did we really make love?” he paused, “Was it mean that you’re gonna be with me when I’m achieving my dream?” he asked in a lower tone.

Toshiya blushed so hard that if Kaoru wasn’t holding himself back he would’ve laughed, which would ruin the mood, “Hai…”

Kaoru smiled and kissed Toshiya’s delicate face thoroughly, which made Toshiya giggled. Then a sound of interruption came.

“Kaoru… the phone…”

“Just let it be, I don’t want to let go of you.”

“Silly! I’m not going anywhere! Now pick up that phone, maybe it’s something important.”

Lazily, Kaoru let go of him with a pout on his face. “Huh, you’re so cold, you know.”

Toshiya merely stuck his tongue out as a reply.

“Moshi-moshi, whoever this is, you should know that you just ruin the loving mood between me and my new koi… Oh, Hara-san.”

Toshiya almost exploded with laughter at seeing Kaoru’s mixed expression, from confusion, anxiety, and a little guilt. But Kaoru gave him a warning stare. He really didn’t want Toshiya’s father found out that his son is Kaoru’s new koi that he just mentioned stupidly, and that he actually just took away his son’s innocence. Kaoru felt a sweat dropped when in a single second he managed to imagine an amazingly enormous amount of ways Toshiya’s father could put his life to end.

However, Toshiya managed to press the loudspeaker button and soon his father’s voice filled the room. “I’m sorry for calling you. Did I interrupt your time with your new koi?”

“No, it’s okay… no, you don’t bug me at all…” Weird, Kaoru felt himself awkward talking to Toshiya’s father now. It is maybe because he saw the old man as a ‘father-in-law’ from now on. He shuddered.

“I was just wondering if Toshimasa’s still with you? I couldn’t reach his cellphone…”

“Ah, hai, he’s still with me…” Kaoru watched as Toshiya checked his cell phone and mouthed to Kaoru that the batteries run out, “…He told me that his batteries run out. Do you want to speak with him?”

“No, that’s unnecessary. Just tell him that Kyo, Die, and Shinya just came to meet him. I told them that he might be at your place. So I think I should let you know they’re coming…”

The door bell rang much to Kaoru’s annoyance.

“I think they’re here already.”

“Oh, okay, by the way, Toshimasa didn’t give you and your new koi any problem, right?”

“N-no… Not at all…In fact, he had been very cooperative,” Kaoru sneered at Toshiya, who already chuckled. “He’s the birthday boy anyway. We’re the one who should give him the service.” He grinned satisfied as he saw Toshiya blushed at the word ‘service’.

“Then tell him he should go home tonight. We have arranged a celebration for him too. Enjoy your time now, Kaoru.”

“Thanks, Hara-san.” Then he put the phone down and shouted at the insistent door bell. “I’m coming, dammit!”

Kaoru put on a short pants and a white t-shirt sloppily. He kissed Toshiya quickly and said as he headed out of his room, “I’ll just tell them to come later. Stay in bed, ne? Don’t move too much.”

He rushed to the front door, opened it with a grumpy face, and met three familiar persons. “WHAT?!!”

Die’s stupid grin greeted him first, “Whoohoo, Kaoru, what’s with that face? You can’t monopolize the birthday boy on your own, you know.”

“Yes I can. Now shoo. Come back later.” Kaoru scowled and attempted to close the door.

Kyo, however, came in yawning and held the door, “Hey! I even woke up early in this morning because this red-headed morron forced me to come here. Now just let me say happy birthday to him and I’ll leave you two alone.”

“Wa~~it…” Die poked Kaoru’s arm, “Is this mean everything went well last night?”

Shinya came from Die’s back and spoke shyly, “You two… got together?”

Kaoru couldn’t stop a blush crept into his face as he nodded. Kyo’s eyes widened. “I can’t believe this! He actually wants a moronic pimp like you!”

“Hey! What’s that supposed to mean?!!” Kaoru let go of the door and crossed his arms on his chest.

Seizing the opportunity, Die dashed past Kaoru, dragging Shinya with him. Kyo followed them closely behind. Kaoru scowled when he saw them running upstairs to his room. He scowled even deeper when he heard Die’s annoying shout.

“Waaaa! TOSHIYA IS NAKED!!!”

He swore to himself to sew his red-headed friend’s mouth shut.

“I’ll go with you to the station.”

Kaoru zipped his bag and slung it on his shoulder, “No, you don’t have to. You should go home, ne. Your family’s waiting.”

“They could wait a little bit more…”

“Toshiya, your dad’s gonna forbid me from seeing you again if you don’t go home soon.”

“Of course he won’t! My family likes you, remember?”

“Look, I’m also worried, you know. It’s late already! What if something happen to you on your way home?”

“Now you’re taking me as a kid! I’m a grown-up already, I’ll be fine!” Toshiya insisted, crossing his arms across his chest. Kaoru, on the other hand, didn’t flinch. After exchanging stares, Toshiya gave up and looked down. He muttered slowly, “I just wanna be with you a little bit longer, baka…”

“Damn, you could be a brat sometimes,” Kaoru smiled nonetheless. He couldn’t lie to himself that he wanted the same, and was delighted by the fact that Toshiya don’t want to separate from him. “But, since it’s your birthday, I’ll do whatever you wish. Let’s go.”

Toshiya’s face brightened as Kaoru wrapped an arm around his body and brought him outside. They walked in silence, enjoying the other’s comfortable companion. After a while, Toshiya raised his head slightly towards Kaoru.

“I thought you said you don’t have to go there.”

“I thought the same. But as you saw earlier, my mom called and told me to take the train to go there. She said they need a hand badly, as three of my uncles couldn’t come. Great timing, huh? She threatened me, if I don’t come, I won’t get my allowance for three months.”

Toshiya giggled, “She really knows how to deal with you, ne?”

“Hell yes.”

The younger boy pondered and grinned, “Maybe I should learn some things from her.”

Kaoru raised an eyebrow at him, “And why exactly do you need to do so?”

“You mocked me too much,” Toshiya crossed his hands, faking a pout. Kaoru just laughed and tightened his arm around Toshiya. “Mm,” Toshiya leaned in, letting go of his fake pout, “You felt warm.”

“But you felt ‘warmer’ last night, right?” Kaoru grinned enjoying the blush filled the younger boy’s face.

“Ba-baka! Do you always have to go there?”

“What? You don’t like it then?”

“I don’t mean like that…” Toshiya bowed his head, hiding his embarrassed face under his bangs. Kaoru kissed him on the forehead lovingly and pointed to the front.

“We’re here already.”

Toshiya followed the direction of Kaoru’s finger. The train station stood proudly in front of them. His face fell once again. Kaoru noticed it, “I have to go, ne.”

“I know,” Toshiya replied, but didn’t move away from Kaoru.

Kaoru sighed, he didn’t like to part either. But a single drop of water on his face made him looked up and saw that it started to rain. He dragged Toshiya inside the train station to avoid it, “You should wait here first, at least until the rain stopped.”

Toshiya looked outside and grinned, “It’s not even raining, Kaoru, just a few drops of water. I’ll be fine. I’ll just run quickly.”

“Or maybe you should call your parents to bring you an umbrella.”

“I’ll be fine, really,” Toshiya giggled, “Since when you’re such a worrywart?”

But to his surprise, Kaoru cut the distance between them and gave him one long kiss. “Since I love you,” Kaoru said when the kiss ended.

Toshiya hugged him tightly, “If you don’t stop doing this, I won’t be able to let you go.”

“Hmm… enjoying it too much?”

“As if you don’t.”

“Well, well, getting some self-confidence already?”

“I learnt it from you,” Toshiya stuck his tongue out.

Kaoru laughed and ruffled his head, “It seemed that I have been a good teacher. Now, go home before the rain gets harder.” Toshiya giggled. He gave the older boy one last hug before skipping on his way out. He turned around and waved a little and got the same reply from Kaoru.

Kaoru continued watching his lover until his back disappeared. Then he turned to buy a ticket with a smile on his face.

His life’s a bliss. Really.

************

Kaoru searched from room to room, greeted everyone he knew along the way. They looked too busy that Kaoru restrained himself from asking where his mother was. Finally, he saw the back of his mother in one big room, “Mom, I’m here.”

His mother turned to him from whatever she was doing and let out a thankful face, “Thank God!”

“Where’s dad?”

“Out, getting some things which were running out,” His mother pointed to the packages and papers laying on the floor, “Here, help me wrap all these.” Kaoru sat next to her and reached out to one of them. Suddenly, his mother started to speak again, “How’s Toshimasa?”

Kaoru jerked his head up so quickly that his neck popped, “Huh?”

“It’s his birthday today, right? Did you say happy birthday from me?”

“Ah,” Kaoru sighed with hidden relief. He was kind of startled by his mother sudden question about Toshiya. “Gomen, I forgot.”

“Having too much fun, it seemed?” His mother chuckled, “I still wondered why Toshimasa put himself in the whole trouble of coping with my idiotic son.”

“Sorry for being idiotic,” The young boy scowled.

“So how was his birthday?”

“His birthday was like…” He pondered for a second, “…well, a birthday. Shinya, Die, and Kyo came too. They brought a cake, we sang a little, took some photos, yada yada. Toshiya was in tears.” Kaoru smiled, didn’t bother to remember the endless teasing of his friends at the new couple after seeing Toshiya naked and covered with love-bites in his room.

His mother squealed a little, “He’s such an adorable crybaby. What did you get for him?”

Kaoru couldn’t help to smile, both at his present and his ‘present’, “It’s a secret.”

“My son had started to keep secrets from me!” His mother faked a shocked face dramatically, “I’m upset!”

Kaoru just rolled his eyes at his mother antics. He was kind of worried, though, about how their family reactions would be if they find out about him and Toshiya. But that could be saved for later. He didn’t want to ruin his newly formed relationship. So instead, he continued wrapping the packages one after another. He never thought it would take such a long time to wrap them. He glanced at the piles of unwrapped packages and sighed inwardly.

“So, you boys spent the whole day in our house? What about Toshimasa’s family? Didn’t they want to celebrate with him too?”

“His father called and let him stay until night. Then he has to go home and celebrate with his family.”

“So he’s home already, right?”

“S’pose to,” He took a look at his watch. It had been three hours since they parted at the train station. The walk from there to Toshiya’s house should not take more than twenty minutes. It could be even shorter if Toshiya took the shortcut. He frowned as he remembered how dark and desolate the shortcut was, “I’ll call him.”

He reached for his cell phone and pushed Toshiya’s quick-dial. “The number you’re calling is not active or out of service area…” Recalled that Toshiya’s batteries run out, he ignored the fact that Toshiya should’ve had his cell phone recharged by now. He was about to call Toshiya’s house when the number itself appeared on the screen, calling him.

This made him instantly feel an unexplained anxiety. He frowned, forced himself to calm down. His mother looked at him questioningly. “Kaoru? Aren’t you going to answer the phone?”

Kaoru felt the uneasiness increased.

Something’s not right.

Something came up.

He didn’t like the feeling at all, for his intuition never failed him. Nevertheless, he nodded to his mother, pushed the green button and answered, “Moshi-moshi…”

The voice of Toshiya’s father reached his ears, “Kaoru? Is Toshimasa with you? ”
