Author Comments: Well, here it is, my very first fanfic~! I have been thinking on this for quite some time and finally I decided to write it. I think I re-wrote it like... 50 times in hopes of making it good, so I hope that all of you enjoy it, but... please remember its my first fic, so be kind with your C&C ^^;; Oh, and the main character is Toshiya, so it will revolve around him mostly w/ a few side fic for other pairings and such. (my lemons suck, so please over look that once you get to that part.) Oh and by the way, Toshiya isn't going to be sleeping around, despite all of the pairs I have listed. (sorry :P )
Disclaimer: Unfortunately, I do not own Toshiya or the rest of Dir en grey. Also, I do not own any of the other j-rock related characters that might pop up in this fic. :x But all OC's belong to yours truly ^^
Dedication: This fic is dedicated to Mi-chan and Laura-san, because they are the two who have inspired me the most. This is also dedicated to Bailey-san, Kato-chan, and Dee-san. Most of which I have lost contact with, but I still think about and love! This fic is also dedicated to VM, wyndslash, and Aoi who all inspired me to write my own fan fiction since I loved theirs so much!
Other: I crave comments, critiques, and suggestions! All italics are thoughts. I'm sure you probably figured that out, but I just wanted to point it out just in case ^^;;

Prologue

Rain fell lightly on the roof of a black carriage as it swiftly made its way towards a tall, looming building in the distance. A young boy sighed, he knew that this day would come, but he didn’t know it would be so soon. “Now listen to me, Hara Toshimasa...” his father said. The boy's eyes moved from the cloudy sky to the older man, looking at him with slight indifference. “You should be thankful that I’m putting you in The Hirataku Institute and not one of the others I had in mind. They use more… physical methods of help.” Toshiya snorted. Stupid old man, didn’t he know that in his son's mind, anywhere would have been better than with him and his cruel step-mother. He was tired of the constant blame his father put on him and the never ending insults from the woman that he married. All in all, he was thrilled to be going to the institution even though he was slightly apprehensive and maybe even a little scared about the aspect of being in a mental hospital. Who knew what kind of people were in that place. Probably crazy ones who would rather kill him as to look at him. He wasn't like that. He wasn't crazy; his dad just wanted to be rid of him and used his suicide attempt as an excuse to put him away, saying he was "mentally unstable". The young boy sighed once more and ran his fingers through his long, black hair. There was no need to think about it now because as he looked up, the looming building in the distance now stood before him. There was no way to escape now... Toshiya had to face his fate.

Deep chocolate eyes moved up to stare at the large building as the carriage came to a stop. It looked far scarier in person than it had when he saw it a few miles back. Its walls were dark cement, decorated with various sized cracks. Vines grew their way up the sides of the building and up the columns that held the entrance roof up. Windows though... they were no where to be found. He was sure there were windows somewhere... what building didn't have windows, right? Right... Toshiya bit his lower lip. Now, fear was setting in. What were they going to do to him here? His father said that the other institutes used more physical methods, but he never said that this one didn't use them as well. "Don't think about it, Toshiya..." he thought to himself as his eyes took in the building. It seemed to grow darker and more fearsome the longer he stared at it, so he decided it was time to turn his gaze to something else. When his eyes moved back down he saw a nurse and two men standing at the entrance of the institute. All three of them were dress in white clothing, the men in pant uniform and of course, the woman in a nursing uniform. He shivered. They were staring at him... why? Were they worried he would come out of the carriage, foaming at the mouth or something? Toshiya snickered at the thought. It was slightly amusing to him... almost to the point where he actually felt like pulling a stunt like that, but with his father there, he knew better.

Pushing the amusing idea out of his head, he waited silently while his father got out of the carriage and walked over to the people standing at the entrance. He could see the older man talking and motioning to him. There really was no telling what the sorry bastard was telling them at that moment and it pissed the young man off greatly. "That's it... tell them lies, father. Coward." Toshiya began to scratch at the now healed scars on his wrists, a habit he had picked up after he left the hospital when he had tried to take his own life. The pain helped him cope it seemed. It helped him deal with the issues surrounding him at the time. But those issues would soon be nothing but distant memories. Distant, yes, but not too distant to haunt him in his sleep and to eat at him when he was awake. He would probably never escape them. Not unless... they did some kind of mind control tests on him or something. "Humph. Like hell they will. No one is going to fucking control my mind." he mumbled aloud as he watched his father approach his side the carriage and get in. "They are coming to take you now. Thank Gods you will be out of my sight, you wretched child. Now Kiko and I can move on with our lives and have children without you as a burden on us." Gods, that man was pure evil. How he had dealt with his father so long, Toshiya would never know. He shook his head. He didn't want to know. He was more than happy just being well... ignorant of the whole matter. Toshiya pushed all thoughts aside as his door was opened. He was greeted by a woman with a kind face. "Hello, Hara-san. My name is Nurse Hiroshika Sumi and welcome to The Hirataku Institute." She smiled and held out here hand, which Toshiya took.

"Don't tell my father, but I'm a little nervous ." he stated lowly as he stepped out of his fathers carriage and onto the walk way of the institution. The nurse who had went out to meet him continued to smile, "Don't be. You will be fine, I assure you. Nothing bad will happen to you here. And do not worry, I will not tell your father." These words and the kind smile of his nurse relaxed him slightly. He was beginning to loose a small amount of his minute fear when... "Toshimasa, you worthless child! You’d best behave here. Don't cause them as much trouble and grief as you have me.” His father spoke before prompting his driver to leave. Toshiya just stood there, watching his father leave without him. No tears fell, but sorrow and pain could be seen within his deep chocolate pools. He wasn't sad because his father had said all of those things, no, he was used to that... Toshiya's pain came from a brutal reminder that he was now, completely and utterly alone. As evil as his father had been, he was still there. But now... now he had no family, no friends, nothing. Just himself and all of his beautifully haunting memories. "Come on; let’s get you to your room now. The Doctor will be coming by to see you soon." He heard the nurse say. That’s when the realization really hit him. This place, this horrid place, was now his home.
