If I Could Tell You

Chapter 5

Shinya stood there in shock; he could not believe what he just heard. The daughter that he had raised for 6 years just called him that. Nanako waved good-bye to her friends and walked past him into the car. Saori watched her open the car door and close it with her mouth hanging.

The car ride home was silent, everyone heard what Nanako said. Shinya sat at the front and starred off at nothing, his mind was a whirlwind right now. Saori glanced at him once in a while just to make sure that he was still breathing and alive. She looked at Nanako's expressionless face in the mirror and sighed, how did things turn out this way? She remembered that Nanako was such a sweet little girl.

Nanako got out of the car first and then went into the house without saying anything to anyone. Saori looked after her and turned to face Shinya. "Shin-chan, are you okay?"

Shinya nodded slowly and headed into the house as well. Saori sighed and followed after them, Toshiya threw her a worried look after seeing Shinya's face and she shook her head tiredly and draped herself onto Toshiya. "Totchi, is Die home yet?"

"He is." Toshiya shifted under her weight. "Saori-sama, what's going on?"

Saori sighed heavily and moved off of him to walk upstairs. "Long story." She climbed up the stairs as if she was dragging a ton of brick behind her. Without bothering to knock, she entered Die's office with the same gloomy attitude.

"Die~~~~~"

"What?"

"I don't think Nanako should go to Liberty Academy anymore." She dropped down onto the sofa and rubbed her forehead.

"Why?"

"I went to pick up Nanako with Shinya today, and Nanako told a bunch of girls that Shinya was her driver."

Die put down the folder and looked at her with a shocked expression. "... What?"

"Yeah, I know. I nearly flipped out of the car when I heard that."

Die frowned and pressed in the intercom button on his phone. "Toshiya, I want to speak to Nanako, bring her to my office." Then he hung up and sank back into his chair.

"Oooooooooh, scary Die-chan." Saori stuck out a tongue at him and he rolled his eyes.

Shinya was suspicious and scared when Toshiya came and told him that Die-sama wanted to see Nanako, without a choice, he followed after them. When the door closed behind them, Shinya could only lean against the door in hopes to hear something.

"You wanted to see me?" Nanako asked as soon as the door closed.

Saori looked at Die and looked at her; this was going to be interesting.

"Nanako, I want you to apologize to your dad." Die started off.

"What for?"

"You know what you did!"

"What did I do?"

"How could you call your dad your driver in front of so many people? That was beyond disrespectful."

Nanako rolled her eyes and studied her fingernails. "What did you expect? He showed up in school with such a look, which was so embarrassing. My friends would have laughed at me if I told them that he was my father, and besides, who'd believe me anyways?"

"You!" Die stood up from his chair abruptly and looked at her with wide eyes.

"Oi, Die, calm down."

"Why do you care so much anyways?" Nanako questioned back.

Die didn't say anything, his jaw was clenched tightly. "Because I've seen how Shinya treats you, and to have you turn around on him like this is like committing a crime." He muttered through gritted teeth.

"What do you want to do? Do you want to hit me?"

"You have no idea how much."

It was at that moment that Shinya rushed in and bowed to Die quickly. "Die-sama, I apologize for her behavior, but please don't hurt her."

Nanako snorted and turned her head away. "Oh please, you two are so gross. How can you apologize for me? And to someone that thinks he's always right and so stuck up!"

"Don't talk about Die-sama like that!"

Before Shinya could think anything through, he raised a hand and it connected with Nanako's cheek. Shinya drew his hand back quickly and looked at Nanako with regret.

"Nana-chan... I'm so sorry, I didn't mean to, I..."

"I hate you!" Nanako yelled out and ran past everyone and out of the room.

"Wait, Nana-chan." Shinya snapped out of his trance and quickly followed after her.

The other three in the room watched after them with looks of shock, Saori jumped to her feet and smacked Die's arm. "What are you waiting for? Go and chase after them, who knows what could happen!"

Shinya followed after Nanako out of the door, her small form blended in with the crowd quickly and soon Shinya lost sight of her. He felt his head swell up and his breath started to hitch. Hundreds of possibilities ran through his head, his vision started blurring and he could hear himself panting and feel the sharp pain in his chest whenever he took a breath in.

When Die finally caught up to him, Shinya was already swaying on his feet and threatening to fall. When he did, Die caught him with sigh and hoisted him up in his arms. The man weighed nothing.

Without a choice, Die returned to the house with Shinya in his arms. He kicked open the door, Saori jumped up from the sofa quickly.

"Die! Is he okay?"

"He blacked out."

Saori looked at him worriedly and bit her lips. "Damn it, I never should have told you about it."

"It's a good thing that you told me." Die looked down at Shinya. "Who knows how much he would have been suffering if you didn't tell me."

"Yeah well, now that Nanako's gone, he's going to be suffering more." She rolled her eyes and then a teasing smile appeared on her face. "Awwww... don't you two just look so cute standing there like that. You holding him in your arms, him sleeping so peacefully...."

"Shut it." Die walked past her before she could finish anything and walked towards Shinya's bedroom. Saori watched after them and then soon her smile dropped. "Toshiya!"

"Hai." Toshiya came out of the kitchen.

"I'm going out to look for Nana-chan, take care of the other two."

"But Saori-sama, it's quite late...."

"Don't worry about it."

Nanako shuddered and shivered underneath a slide in a muddy park. She wrapped her arms around herself and tried to keep some warmth, she felt faint and hungry, and she could see black spots here and there. Distantly, she heard footsteps and she swallowed, she hoped that perhaps it was someone she knew. Then again, who did she know?

She waited for the footsteps to pass away; instead, the sound grew louder. Nanako opened her eyes and saw a woman in front of her. She had long brown hair down her shoulder and dark eyes that looked at her with concern. "Hello there, is something wrong?" She asked. "Did you get lost?"

Nanako opened her mouth and wanted to say something, but instead, darkness took over and she fell forward into the woman's arms.

When Nanako woke up again, she was in a white room that was silent, very silent. She looked around and saw the woman from before sitting by her bed. She peered up at her with large eyes. The woman smile and patted her head.

"My name is Ayako, what's your name?"

"Nanako."

Ayako raised an eyebrow, where did she hear that name from?

"Well, Nanako, where are you parents? Where do you live?"

Nanako looked at her and looked down; her hands twisted the bed cover. "... I live in a house."

Ayako smiled and tilted her head. "Can you describe it a little bit more?"

Nanako glanced at her and started describing the best she could, Ayako's frown turned deeper and deeper with every description, why did it sound so fami... Her eyes widened and she looked down at the girl on the bed.

"Nanako... is your father's name Shinya?"

Nanako stopped talking and looked at her in surprise. "How did you know?"

Ayako let out a huge sigh and stood up. "Just stay here Nanako; someone will pick you up soon." Ayako walked out of the room and pressed speed dial, soon the other end answered. "Saori... are you missing a little girl by any chance?"

"... You found one?"

"Yeah, about 6 years old, she says her name is Nanako..."

"Hold her there! Where are you?"

"Work."

"I'll be there in 2 minutes."

Then the other end hung up and Ayako looked at her phone, Saori really will be able to make it in 2 minutes... now, just where did she say she was coming from was the problem. True to her words, she arrived in 2 minutes, her high heels clicked as she ran down the hall. The two women met up in the corridor.

"You found her? Where was she?"

"Some park." Ayako shrugged. "She looks scared, don't scold her. And what happened?"

Saori ran a hand through her hair and rolled her eyes. "Long story, all Die's fault!" She then pushed open the door and walked in. "Nana-chan!"

Nanako turned and saw a familiar face, she felt tears rising up and she struggled to get over to Saori quickly. Saori bent down and caught her in a hug. "Nana-chan, we were so worried! Don't do that ever again!" Saori squeezed the little girl to add emphasis.

"I'm sorry onee-chan." Nanako sniffed and wrapped her fingers around Saori's neck. Saori stood up and hoisted her up as well; she then turned to face Ayako.

"Nana-chan, this is Aya-onee-chan, she's onee-chan's best friend, say hi."

Nanako turned and looked at Ayako, whom smiled and waved at her. Nanako smiled shyly at her. "Aya-oneechan."

The two women shared a look and Saori nodded towards the door. "Do you need a ride?"

"No, no, you go home now, it seems like it has been a hectic day." Ayako commented as the two of them walked down the corridor with Nanako in Saori's arms.

"Tell me about it." Saori rolled her eyes again. "Anyways, I'm going to speed back now. I'll tell you all about it some other time, call me."

Ayako nodded and stood at the entrance to watch Saori get into the car and car speeding off. She looked after the disappearing tail light and wondered what exactly happened.

Saori and Nanako entered the house through the front door; Toshiya stood up and greeted them. Nanako looked up at him and hid behind Saori's legs. Toshiya bent down to be eye level with her. "Nanako-chan, are you okay?"

Nanako nodded slowly and came out from behind Saori.

"Shinya is in his room right now, why don't you go see him?"

Nanako nodded and walked towards the familiar room slowly. Toshiya stood up and Saori beamed at him. "Totchi, you'll be such a good father!"

Toshiya looked with wide eyes and blinked. "W... what?"

"You're so adorable!" Saori squealed and latched onto him immediately.

Nanako walked up the stairs slowly, she could hear Toshiya mutter something incoherent, but she chose to ignore that. She walked into the room and saw Shinya lying on his bed, and then she saw Die sitting beside him on the bed. Nanako looked at Die with fear in her eyes.

"He blacked out, don't worry, he'll be fine soon." Die opened his mouth and surprisingly, it wasn't to yell at the little girl.

"Daddy..." Nanako sniffed and touched Shinya's hand.

"He was worried about you and followed after you, where have you been?"

"I... I don't know..." Nanako sniffed more as tears ran down her cheeks. "Daddy..." She held Shinya's hand tightly and leaned against their joint hands.

Die sighed and walked out of the room, when he turned the corner, he saw a familiar scene. "Saori..... What are you doing?" He asked with a tired voice. Why did he always have to walk in when Saori was hanging all over Toshiya?

"Ah, Die-chan, how are Nana-chan and Shin-chan?" And she could still shamelessly drape all over him while talking to him.

"They're fine. Nanako's crying inside." He wanted to walk past them to get upstairs, but Saori grabbed his arms immediately.

"Where are you going?"

"Upstairs... to sleep."

"Aren't you going to take care of Shin-chan?" Saori pinned a glare on him.

"Why would I? He'll be fine, besides his daughter is back."

"Yeah, but he's sick! You can't expect Nana-chan to take care of him! And besides, this was your fault to begin with! You should take care of him!" And then leave me and Toshiya alone... Saori added on silently.

Die looked at her with wide eyes; he didn't even know how to respond.

"Go! Tell Nana-chan to come and see me, I'll take care of her! You go and take care of Shinya!" Die was shoved in the general direction of Shinya's room. "Go!"

Die thought of turning around, but he was too tired to argue today, instead, he sighed and walked back into Shinya's room again.

"Nanako, Saori wants to see you."

Nanako wiped her tears and went out of the room obediently.

Die sighed and sat down beside Shinya, it looked like the man was waking up, and maybe he shouldn't have sent Nanako away. And soon, Shinya's eyes opened and his eyes darted around the room. A gasp fell from his lips when he noticed Die.

"Die-sama... I'm sorry; I'll go and do my work." Shinya struggled to rise from the bed, but Die grabbed his arm gently.

"Lie down and rest, you're not fit for working right now." He pulled him down onto the bed gently.

"I'm sorry Die-sama..."

"There's nothing to apologize about." He paused and bit his lip. "Nanako is back..."

"Na... Nana-chan?" He quickly got up once again. "Where is she? Please, I need to see her."

"You rest now; she's not going to disappear again. Saori's with her right now."

Shinya covered his face with his hands and his voice trembled. "Oh God, I fail as a father, Nanako hates me now."

"That's not true." Die pulled his hands away from Shinya's face and looked at him. "I... believe that I should apologize for what happened.

"Iie... you didn't do anything Die-sama... it's my fault that I can't afford anything that she wants..."

"It was my fault for sending her to a school like that. If you want, after things calm down after a while, we can go look for another school." Shinya closed his eyes but didn't say anything. "Or would you prefer for her to be tutored at home?"

"Well... I want her to study at school like the other girls her age... but....."

"You know what? Forget this conversation, you're ill right now, whatever you decide is not going to be proper anyways. Just sleep a bit more." He pulled Shinya down once again and dragged the covers up to cover him.

Shinya didn't say anything, he only nodded and closed his eyes, just before he drifted off to sleep, Die caught yet another apology from his lips. Die looked at him, and fingered his hair. It was chopped short, but still long enough to spill across the pillows. He sighed and leaned back against the wall next to the bed.

In the morning, when Shinya woke up, Die was no longer there, instead, Nanako slept on the bed beside him. Shinya felt a wave of relief wash over him and he reached out and touched the little girl's hair softly. He made sure that what he was touching was real, and reached out and hugged the little girl close to him. Thank God that she was back now.

"... Daddy...?"

Shinya looked down at the little girl and smiled. The emotions over-whelmed him; he could not even speak and just nodded his head.

"Daddy, I'm sorry. I'm sorry Daddy, I'm sorry." Nanako apologized and clutched at his shirt tightly. "I'm sorry daddy, I didn't mean it. I'm sorry I made you cry. I'm sorry I made you mad, I'm sorry." Nanako let out a long string of words and apologies, to which Shinya shook his head and kissed the small girl's forehead.

"It's okay sweetie, it's my fault for sending you to a school like that."

"Daddy, I don't want to go back to that school anymore. I don't like that school. I want to stay with you, daddy."

Shinya smiled and nodded his head, it wasn't like he was about to send her off to that school again anyways.

So, instead of going to school, Nanako stayed home like the old days. Shinya thought that it might be better to wait for another year before considering her education, right now; a home tutor would be nice.

Days where everything was peachy passed by like a breeze.

Weeks went by; Saori was getting impatient with the turn out of things. Die and Shinya still behaved... so distantly with each other. Saori bit her lips and looked at Shinya in front of her; she needed to get a conversation going. She needed to get those two together, her patience is running thin.

Then she remembered a conversation she had earlier with Shinya.

"Shinya, you mentioned that you were a virgin before." Saori's eyes lit up as she leaned further onto the table and looked at Shinya with unusually bright eyes. "So Die-chan will be your first."

Shinya looked down and wanted the ground to crack open a hole and swallow him. Meanwhile, Saori was still looking at him with a bright and unusually happy face.

"Wh... what are you saying?" Shinya blushed.

Saori laughed and waved her hand around carelessly. "No worries, I shall tell you all about Die in bed." Saori nodded and Shinya looked at her with fear in his eyes.

"Hmmm... I think I'll get back to work now. I remembered that there's something in the..."

"No, no, no, it's okay, Toshiya will do that, now sit here and let me tell you all about it."

"But..."

"Daddy, what is a virgin." Suddenly, a young and naive voice spoke up from behind them.

The two adults both turned to look at Nanako with blank faces.

"Ah! Honey, are you hungry? Come on; let me give you something to..." Shinya started.

"No, no, no, sweetie, a virgin means..."

"No!!" Shinya yelled quickly, Saori looked at him with wide eyes. "Don't tell her that..."

"There's nothing wrong with knowing what a virgin is. A virgin is someone that hasn't had sex yet."

Shinya felt the world just crashed down on him.

Nanako looked at Saori for a moment longer before blinking and tilting her head. "What is sex?"

"It's something your father hasn't done either."

"AHH!! Let's hurry up and go get something to eat." Shinya quickly jumped up.

"Ah, so that means I'm a virgin?" The daughter quizzed.

Saori chuckled lightly, which earned a teary eyed look from Nanako, soon Saori was slapping the table laughing none stop.

Shinya took the chance and quickly ushered Nanako away.

And this was the scene that Die came upon when he walked into the kitchen. His girlfriend was sitting there laughing at nothing. "What.... are you laughing about?"

"Hahahah, Nana-chan asked what virgin meant, Shinya didn't want to tell her, so I didl"

"..... How old is Nanako?" Die asked carefully.

"I don't know." Saori shrugged. "Five or six."

Die starred at his girlfriend in shock and forgot about whatever he came here to get. After a while, Saori turned to look at his blank face.

"What's wrong honey?" She waved a hand in front of him to get attention.

"I think you should check yourself."

"What? Check myself?"

"Yes, check your mental health! I will make an appointment for you."

Saori's eyes grew wide immediately and she looked as if she was ready to cry. "Did you just insult me??!!" Then her voice grew three octaves higher and wailed. "TOSHIYAAAAAAAAAA!!!"

However, Toshiya didn't show up, it was Shinya that came into the kitchen again. He caught Die's eyes, and both of them looked away quickly. Shinya didn't know why he was blushing. It was all because of Saori-sama and her talk of...

Saori looked at the two men in front of her then smiled and got up from her seat. "Ah, I just remembered that I had something to do." She hummed a little tune and walked behind Shinya, her body accidentally bumped into Shinya's and sent him stumbling forwards. "Ooooops, sorry, sorry, my bad." She laughed carelessly.

Die caught a falling Shinya, and didn't know where to place his hands. Shinya had his hands out, braced against Die's chest. When the two of them made eye contact again, they once again quickly averted their eyes and separated themselves.

Saori felt her eye twitch as she witnessed this God given chance. "Come with me." Without a second word, she pulled Die out of the kitchen into the dining room.

"Dieeeeeeeeeeee!!" Saori whined immediately.

"What?" He asked cautiously.

"Dieeeee!! Even a sloth moves faster than you!!"

"What are you talking about? What do you want?" Die's voice rose higher and higher.

Once again, Saori's eyes grew bigger and tears threatened to fall. "Why are you yelling at me?" She even added in a couple sniffs.

"Cause you started it." Die muttered and looked at her tear filled eyes. After a moment, he sighed and pulled her into his arms. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean that..."

Saori pouted and leaned against him, out of the corner of her eyes, she saw Shinya walking into the dining room. She quickly pushed Die away. "I don't want to hug you!!" Then turning, she caught Shinya in her arms. "Shin-chan!!" She looked up and saw Die glaring at her. Hiding a smile, she hugged Shinya tighter.

"Ano... um... what's wrong..." Shinya sensed Die's glare as well and looked down at the ground.

"Tell Die to stop being so mean to me!" She faked a couple of sobs.

"Ano..." Shinya started. He never knew how to deal with these two people. Both were his employers, yet she did not act like a mistress at all.

"... Mean? Me?" Intead it was Die that spoke up. "Lying is not good! You... go to your room NOW!" Die spat out.

"See! See!" Saori pointed at Die with a shaking finger, and spotted Toshiya coming along. "Toshiyaaa!!" She yet again changed her tree and clung onto Toshiya like a sloth. "Tell Die to stop being mean!!"

"Ano..." Toshiya blinked and blinked at the girl that's clinging onto him.

Shinya just kept his eyes on the floor.

No one said anything. Finally, Die heaved a sigh and walked towards the verandah.

"Shinya, go, go! Go talk to him!!" Saori shoved Shinya towards Die's direction quickly.

"Ah, please stop shoving me."

Too late, Saori's last push sent Shinya stumbling forwards again and knocked Die onto the ground, successfully entangling their limbs.

Saori and Toshiya looked at the scene with wide eyes. Die quickly turned and helped Shinya up while glaring at Saori at the same time. She whimpered and quickly hid behind Toshiya.

Shinya bowed at Die's helping hands and moved his leg; a shot of pain ran up his leg, causing him to wince.

"What's wrong?" Die asked.

"It... it's nothing." Shinya mumbled and stood up. Without even two steps, he sank down again and clutched onto his ankle.

Saori gasped and knelt down beside him immediately. "Wah, Shin-chan! Are you okay? I never meant for that to happen." She quickly rubbed at the general area of the ankle.

Shinya whimpered, but it came out more like a moan than a wince. "Stop it, it hurts." He said in a small voice.

The other three in the room froze at the sound of his voice, Saori's perverted mind immediately jumped into action. "That was so..." She glanced up at Die, whom coughed and looked away. She raised an eyebrow and hid a smile. "Obviously his ankle is hurt. Die, carry him to his room."

"How can we let Die-sama do that? I'll do it." Toshiya offered quickly.

"Nooo!!" Saori all but screamed out. "You... you carry me to my room!" She nodded.

"... Carry you? Why?" Toshiya blinked.

".... Because!!! Because... *ahem*... I have a few things to discuss with you... *ahem*... very INTERESTING things." She coughed a couple of times to restrain her voice.

Then she looked over at Die expectantly, the latter one helped Shinya up and was currently holding Shinya up in his arms. Shinya's face was as red as his hair.

Toshiya stepped forwards to help Saori up from the floor. She smiled and moved her hands. "Good boy." Then Toshiya felt something on his behind, he paused and looked at her.

"Did you just...?”

She smiled at him sweetly.

"You..." Die looked at her as well.

"Yes?" She batted her eyelashes at him.

He wanted to say something, but saw Shinya wince as he moved his foot a bit. Instead of wasting more time, Die turned and walked towards his room.

"Ano, Die-sama, I can walk..."

"None sense." Die chided immediately.

"Sorry."

Shinya leaned against Die willingly and they disappeared behind a set of stairs.

"YES!!!" Saori jumped up and pumped her fist into the air.

Toshiya covered his ears immediately and frowned at her.

"Now, Toshiya, I shall tell you all about our little Shin-chan's relationship with Die."

"... They have a relationship?"

"Of course!! Want to know?"

Toshiya looked at her for a while and then nodded.

"Good boy, now start taking off your clothes." She smiled and then waited for him to follow her orders.

"Why?"

"Or else how can I tell you about their relationship?"

"You're so.... "

"Yes??" She smiled and then remembered something. "Ah, help me with something first. You have the master key to all the rooms, right?"

"Yes."

"Good! Now go and lock Shinya's door!!"

"Why? What about Nanako-chan? She'll cry if she can't get into Shinya's room."

"Don't worry, I'll take care of little Nanako-chan."

".... Do you want me to lock it while Die-sama's inside the room?"

"Of course!! That's the whole point!! Do that and I'll look for Nanako-chan! Or else...!"

"Hai." Toshiya nodded and hurried off.

Saori smiled and wandered off to find Nanako-chan.

Inside the room, Die's already placed Shinya onto his bed. The latter one looked at Die shyly. "Thank you, Die-sama."

"Don't worry about it; sorry for getting you shoved so hard... Saori's been acting strange lately...."

Shinya immediately made a funny face, of course he knew she was acting strangely lately... and he knew why too. Die mistook his face as a face of pain.

"Are you okay? Where does it hurt?"

At this precise moment, Toshiya peeked in and quietly closed the door to lock it. Turning around, Saori was standing there. The moment Toshiya locked the door; she immediately knelt down and pressed her ear up against the door.

"So, how is it going?"

"... Isn't it rude to eavesdrop?" Toshiya questioned with a reluctant face.

"Shhhh!!!"

Without a choice, Toshiya knelt down and pressed his ear against the door as well.

"Good boy." Saori smiled again and her hand wandered off once again.

Inside, Die massaged Shinya's ankle lightly, and he bit his lips. A sigh escaped his lips as Die removed his hand, then when Die pressed at the swollen area, Shinya let out a wince that sounded more like a moan.

"I think you need an ice bag." Die declared and stood up.

Saori and Toshiya silently prayed that the door would hold.

"Die-sama, you don't need to do that, I'll be fine." Shinya protested.

"No, no, I'll go get some." He said and pulled at the door, but only to find it locked. Die looked at the door and then pulled again.

"Is something wrong?" Shinya asked.

"... I think the door is locked."
