The Midnight Butterfly

Part Two

Reita made his way into the okiya, a few cleaning girls giggled and waved; smiling he waved with his fingers to them. Passing the kitchen he leaned over to see what the chef had cooking and snuck two gyoza from her plate.

“Thief!” She called jokingly after him.

Reita smiled crinkling his nose at her; turning his head he made his way slowly up the stairs to the room he shared with Aoi. He slid open the papered door and slipped in unnoticed. Sneaking over to Aoi, Reita planned to scare him but he tripped on Aoi’s foot that was hiding under the coverlets.

“Eep!” Reita exclaimed as he fell on the futon next to Aoi.

Aoi threw the covers off his head and sat up on his elbows. “I heard you come in,” he said in a low voice. Aoi had cleaned his face of all his make-up and uncoiled the tight wrapping of his hair so it now lay in purple and black ringlets covering his shoulders; a lovely contrast to the white yukata hanging loosely open across his chest.

“Are you ok my beauty?” Reita asked, offering a dumpling.

“I’m fine. I haven’t thought about my birth home in so long, his comment just brought up some old memories… Is Kyo-sama very angry with me?” Aoi took the offered treat and nibbled at the end.

“No, not at all; in fact he sends the message that you are in no trouble and he’ll be in later to talk to you. He sent me home off the lists so I could be with you, to comfort you,” Reita said through bites. “So do you want to talk; about your home town, Hakuei, or just anything?”

“I really did grow up with him, we lived next door. I started out hating him actually, he used to pick on me and call me names with some of his old friends. Our mothers were great friends and always hoped that Hakuei and I would get along. One day without prior warning, to either of us, our mothers made Hakuei ‘baby-sit’ me while they went out. That was a really eye-opening afternoon; he was really nice despite all the things he’d said and done previously; he played some games with me, made me lunch, it was really endearing. The next day was horrible though, I tried to talk to him and he totally blew me off.” Aoi sighed and looked at Reita.

Reita scooted closer to Aoi and leaned into him. “You had a crush on him didn’t you?”

Aoi blushed. “I did but he had a girlfriend; which made me extremely jealous. He was what I told myself I wanted, so I tried everything I could to get to him, but he just turned me away. My biggest secret is that I used to sneak up to his window at night when our mothers were out, and watch him and his girlfriend.” Aoi bit his lip and looked down.

“Wow, really? Did you ever see them… you know.” Reita asked smiling at Aoi.

“Yeah, I did. It was really just heart wrenching though, and I couldn’t sit through all of it.”

“Oh Aoi, that’s really such a sad story… but, um, you have me now, right?”

Aoi slipped his hand behind Reita’s neck and pulled him close kissing him. Reita flicked his tongue out at Aoi’s lips seeking to deepen the bond. Their tongues played gentle rolling circles on each other and Aoi moaned into the kiss. Reita slipped his slender form on top of Aoi straddling the older man. Aoi moaned again as Reita caught one of his nipples between his teeth and pulled the tender flesh gently. Aoi sent his hands up Reita’s legs, under his kimono and wrapped a gentle hand around his mostly soft member. Reita moaned and bucked into Aoi as the blood rushed from his brain to a southern home.

“Oh Reita, I just want to throw you down and impale you, strip the life from you in a sexual frenzy.”

“I know Aoi, believe me I want you too, but Kyo also told me to follow the rules. No sex till after the mizuage ceremony.”

“That’s such a dumb rule,” Aoi said moving his hips under Reita. “I want to be the one to strip you of your virginity, not some ‘highest bidder’.”

“Oh Aoi, that’s really making me hot, stop talking and just get me off please.”

Aoi flipped Reita onto his back and moved his face down between his legs.

“Uuuhn, Aoi,” Reita moaned as Aoi nuzzled into the blonde’s pubic hair and kissed the base of his hardened penis. Aoi slipped his tongue out and gently pet Reita’s length. Massaging one of the orbs beneath, Aoi took the whole of Reita into his warm mouth. Blowing hot breath while he worked up and down, Aoi soon got Reita squirming and moaning beneath him.

“Oh, oh Aoi, faster,” Reita pleaded, as he felt a building of pressure where Aoi tormented him.

Wanting to prolong the moment Aoi slowed down and sucked just gently. Reita grabbed the cushion beneath him and squeezed the strong shoulders between his thighs. A shaking spasm thundered through his body and he bit back a scream as he came into the warm cavern that enclosed his erupting flesh.

Aoi softly pulled his mouth from Reita and sighing lay down next to him.

Reita hugged close to Aoi and reached up to kiss him. Just as the kiss turned more passionate they heard the cleaning girls greeting Kyo as he entered the okiya. Reita snuck a final kiss then moved away from Aoi to the mirror straightening himself.

“Aoi, Reita?” Kyo called from the hallway.

“You may enter,” Reita said as he slid the door.

“Reita if you would, I’d like a moment with Aoi.”

“Of course Kyo, I’ll go downstairs and bug the chef,” Reita smiled and wandered away.

“Tell me something Aoi,” Kyo said moving to kneel beside the futon that Aoi had curled back onto.

“I’m so sorry Kyo-sama,” Aoi said.

“There’s no need. Just tell me what went wrong; you’re usually really good at putting up with harassing customers.”

“Hakuei knows me, we grew up together. I used to; well I used to find him irresistible. My mother had to sell me; you know that part of my story. Hakuei told me the night before I left that he loved me, he was scared to tell me before, but when he knew he would probably never see me again he had to settle that with me. I figured I would never see him again so I let myself love Reita,” Aoi’s eyes got big. “I shouldn’t have told you that.”

“I know already,” Kyo said. “I have to talk to you about that too, but first finish your story.”

“I love Reita, I think; it’s love, it’s just not the same as what I felt for Hakuei. Sitting in that room, feeling his gaze on me, I felt my old passion for him rising up inside me again. But now I have Reita. But Hakuei could possibly take me from this place; I could live outside of the hanamachi. Not that I don’t appreciate and love all that you’ve done for me, I just…” Aoi started to sob into the cushion.

Kyo sat in silence for awhile surveying the weeping man before him. “I can’t understand your longing to be free from the okiya. I was born into this district; I owe my livelihood to this place and will forever be here. I can however understand love, and I’ll tell you now, Reita can see no other but you, he’s been open and understanding to you from the start. I can see and feel how much he loves you. Just keep that in mind and ponder your next move with great care,” Kyo huffed and bit his lip. “This may not be the best time to do this, I had planned to move Reita to a different room, to ‘save’ you from yourselves, because I know it’s getting harder for you to contain the desires.”

Aoi stared at Kyo in shock for a moment, wondering just how much he knew. “If you think that’s best,” Aoi whispered, “Then I have no place to disagree.”

“You don’t have any input?” Kyo asked with raised brow, painting the picture of his question.

“I think I agree. It would be a good chance for me to be away from him and examine how I truly feel,” Aoi bowed his head.

“I’ll try to break it to Reita gently,” Kyo said standing up and walking to the door. “I love you my Hokan, no matter what happens to you. Thank you for the chat,” bowing his head Kyo sidled out of the door.

Aoi put his face in his hands and cried.

            “WHY?!” Reita demanded.

            “Calm down,” Kyo tried.

“NO! Tell me why, what have we done wrong?” Reita flopped into a chair in the main chamber.

“Reita, remember who you’re dealing with please, let’s be rational,” Kyo ventured.

“I don’t give a DAMN who I’m talking to! Why are you doing this?”

Shinya and Miyavi walked in from the night at that moment. Miyavi stopped giggling into Shinya’s ear and Shinya held his hand over his mouth as his eyes grew bigger.

“Reita” Kyo sighed. “Your irrational behavior is only giving me more of a reason; you’re too caught up in the moment. Please calm down.”

Reita covered his face as he started to cry.

“Shinya, could you take Miyavi upstairs please?” Kyo asked looking over at the two in the doorway.

“Sure,” Shinya said and started to move.

“No need for that Shinya!” Reita’s emotional voice broke free from his constricted chest. “I’ll leave instead!” Reita rose from his chair and covered his face as he ran up the stairs.

“Reita, please,” Kyo pleaded feeling very near anger.

Reita slammed open the door to his and Aoi’s room and stormed in collecting his things.

“What’re you doing?” Aoi asked tiredly from his pillow.

“I,” Reita exclaimed. “I, am collecting all my things and moving to a bottom floor room as per Kyo-SAMA’S ORDERS” Reita screeched the last bit in hopes that Kyo would hear.

Aoi stood up from his bed and caught the younger man in his arms. “Reita,” Aoi said petting his hair.

Reita stood shaking with anger in Aoi’s grasp. Slowly he let himself go to tears and brought his arms around his firm lover, clinging to Aoi as the waves of emotion beat against his distraught shores.

Aoi kissed his flushed cheek and pulled him away so he could look into the blondes’ eyes. “I think right now it’s for the best.” Reita stared in disbelief. “Hear me out,” Aoi said placing a gentle finger to Reita’s lips. “I’m really having a hard time keeping myself from tearing you apart in the most lustful ways. Kyo and I both made the decision, besides I’m right up the stairs if you need me for anything. I mean anything.” As Aoi said this he traced his finger from Reita’s lips down his neck, tickling the soft flesh, past the front of his kimono to his groin.

“Aoi,” Reita whimpered as he felt himself harden under the urgent touch.

They heard footsteps climbing the stairs and Aoi moved his hands back to the hugging position.

“Reita,” Shinya peeked his head into the room. “Reita, you’ve really hurt Kyo you know. He wouldn’t ever say so, but I saw it in his face. You’ve really pushed his patience this time.”

“Oh Kami-sama,” Reita said a worried look pulling his flushed face. “I have to apologize, I really was overreacting. Do you think he’ll forgive me?”

Shinya sighed and bit his lower lip. “I really don’t know, I’ve never seen him look that way, there was so much pain in his face. I do know you’d better hurry it up if you’re apologizing, before he gets a chance to think of a punishment.”

Reita squeezed against Aoi wishing to turn back the hands of time. He braced himself and made his way from the room.

“He’s out in the garden by the maple,” Shinya said as the worried blonde passed.

Kyo wiped at his eyes and looked up into the moon. “I was just trying to protect him,” he whispered to himself and the moon. “I don’t want him to get hurt if Aoi changes his mind, I wanted to put a little distance between them.” A tear made a streaking path down Kyo’s cheek as it shimmered in the naked moonlight.

            “Kyo-sama?” a barely audible whisper.

Kyo looked up at the moon again and blinked away his tears, wiping his face he waited for the speaker to approach.

“Kyo…please.” The speaker placed a soft hand on Kyo’s shoulder.

“Miyavi, you should be inside, it’s getting colder at night,” Kyo said still not turning around.

“Reita just came out,” Miyavi informed. “He looks really sorry and sad. Be gentle with him?” Miyavi asked as he backed away from Kyo and made his way back into the house.

“Kyo-sama,” Reita said stopping a few steps behind Kyo.

“Take a walk with me Reita,” Kyo said, something in his voice compelled Reita to follow his surrogate mother.

Kyo led the way out of the okiya grounds and into the lantern-lit streets. Kyo followed the roads that led to the ‘Mayonaka’. The few people still in the streets greeted them with half hearted bows and shrugs. Kyo stood at the front gates of his teahouse. “Do you like working there Reita?” Kyo asked staring at the walls of the sturdy building.

“Of course Kyo-sama, I love working there,” Reita replied his nerves eating up his voice.

Kyo nodded. “Do you understand all that it takes to be able to work in my establishment?”

“You have to have high training, and a high o-hana?” Reita asked.

Kyo stood and breathed in the night air, then turned and continued walking down the dark streets.

Reita followed, unsure where they were going, but too afraid to ask.

“I paid an exceptional amount for you,” Kyo commented softly, so that Reita had to strain to hear him. “Your first year of training was also very costly.” Kyo led Reita to streets he’d never seen before. “That kimono you have on cost more than your mother made in 2 years.” The lanterns in the streets were getting sparse as Kyo continued to walk. “Finding you a big-sister should Shinya not choose you, will be much more than I believe you’re worth anymore.”

Reita’s breath caught and he stopped dead in his tracks. His eyes filled with involuntary tears, he fought hard to keep them back.

“I can’t hear you walking behind me, Reita,” Kyo said and waited for the young man to catch up.

Reita slowly managed to get his heart beating again and stepped in behind Kyo.

Kyo continued walking. He didn’t say a word as he entered through a set of gates that lead from the hanamachi. Stopping at the final gates he set his hand on it and said, “Do you know how a Geisha re-pays her okiya for all the costs of bringing him into the world?”

            “The Mizuage,” Reita whispered.

“What was that Reita, I didn’t quite hear you?”

“The Mizuage,” Reita said louder unable to hide the tears and fear in his voice.

“Yes, the Mizuage.” Kyo waited for a moment then turned to face Reita.

Reita gasped as he saw tears pouring freely down Kyo’s cheeks, his eyelashes were soaked in them.

“And, my dearest Reita, do you know what happens to a Geisha that loses his virginity outside the Mizuage?” Kyo asked coming forward to grab Reita’s hands.

Reita shook his head unable to bear the look in Kyo’s eyes.

Kyo pulled him forward and pushed him through the gate. “They’re brought here, dear one.”

Reita fell to his knees as he saw all the girls standing outside small houses trying to entice paying customers inside for a night of sexual pleasures. Some were small and afraid; others’ took the job seriously and followed around the drunken men that meandered through the streets.

Reita crawled to Kyo and grabbed at the hem of his kimono, tears fell plainly from his face.

Kyo kneeled and pulled Reita to him, holding the young man tightly Kyo positioned his mouth to Reita’s ear. “I will do everything in my power to save you from this fate! You have to trust me in that and do as I say! I love you too much to let you fall to the waysides!” Kyo’s tear streaked face soaked Reita’s kimono as he nuzzled to the young man’s shoulder.

“Kyo-sama, I’m so very sorry!” Reita exclaimed and squeezed Kyo tighter.

“I’m sorry for my harsh words! I’ve shown everyone in the okiya this place and I thought now would be a good time for you to see the evils of this world we’re part of. You’re very sheltered in my okiya, you just have to trust me to protect and watch over you.”

“I had no idea Kyo-sama. Thank you for showing me this place, I’ll never disrespect you again, I promise and I’m so sorry.” Reita shook with emotion in Kyo’s tight embrace. “Kyo?”

            “Yes?”

            “Can we go home now?”
