My car

The Gen.2

This section is dedicated to my car, the Proton Gen.2. It's the pride of the nation as it is the first fully locally produced car. Before this model, it's all based off some old Mitsubishi design. This is also the car with the first Malaysian made engine called "Campro". Proton has always been using Mitsu engine before that. It's a 1.6, 110hp stock. Front wheel drive. Despite being a front wheel drive, this car handles extremely well thanks to Lotus. Amazing grip and stability through corners, this is car not meant for comfort. It's made to be driven hard and to the limit. The engine, despite being very basic is really something. Responsive and light, it might not win any awards in a sprint race but in a twisty track, it will smoke most of the competition and that's in stock form.

The Campro engine

Sadly the car has a lot of bad rep. Proton isn't really reliable with quality and admitedly, this car has some cons. The driver side power window failed twice. The interior is extremely simple(much like a Lotus car) and the quality of material isn't very good. At best it's decent. But if you don't mind the simplicity and some minor cons, it's an amazing car to drive. The steering is direct and the gear shift nicely. The seats are comfortable for those long drivings. And the ICE is pretty decent too.

I am also in the Gen.2 Club, a club founded for Gen.2 owners and fans. It's a friendly atmosphere and we always help each other with advice on modification and how to make the car better yourself without spending a bomb outside. There are frequent D.I.Y session(almost monthly) and if you are interested, feel free to contact me for details.

With fellow Gen.2 club members at the pit stop

Last year, I got a chance to test drive the car in Sepang during Proton's Track Carnival. The Gen.2 club was invited and it's an amazing experience. Just in case you don't know where Sepang is, it's one of the F1 track. One known for its extremely hot and humid and unpredictable weather, it's one of the most challenging F1 tracks. There was one race a few years ago, where half the track was raining heavily and the other half dry. Well, that's Malaysia for you. Unpredictable weather.

I recently made some minor modifications to the car. Grounding. This is the one of the cheapest and most effective modification for any car. The car feels more responsive, I get less fuel consumption and my headlights are much brighter now.

Next on the list is a front stabalizer bar, K&N drop in air filter, and hopefully by next year, 17" rims.
