Hi Everyone,

In case you haven't heard... Local API women activists and many others are trying to get the word out about a Seattle restaurant serving 'Naked Sushi' and its negative impact on API women. Links to articles are attached.

The Seattle PI is having a poll asking "Do you think 'naked sushi' objectifies women?" The link to vote online is from columnist Robert Jamieson's article in yesterday's issue.

So far, the majority have said "no" - they don't feel that it does. Take time to voice your opinion - it may lead to having the owner respond. Please forward to those who may be interested!

I first saw this kind of thing shown in a Brandon Lee and Dolph Lungren film, 'Showdown in Little Tokyo'. Brandon Lee even says at the end of the film something like "after we kill this man we're gonna go eat fish off those naked chicks!" Awful. I think it was white women that were the sushi platters with Asian men eating the sushi. I thought it was just something Hollywood dreamed up.

Just want to post a comment someone made to me regarding this issue: "If you believe Naked Sushi is culturally defensible and nothing more than a sensual dining experience, would you be willing to take your mom there? If not, then it's exploitative and demeaning. Although it objectifies women, it also doesn't cast men in a very good light -- it celebrates human nature at its worst. Or, if not its worst, then certainly somewhere down there near the bottom."
