: I recently read Heb 6:4-6 and to
me it suggest that a saint can lose his salvation: it reads, “for it is
impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted of the
Heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Ghost, And have tasted
the good word of God, and the powers of the world to come, if they shall
fall away, to renew them again unto repentance.” This suggests that we
can completely fall away. Is that so? Paul
went further to say in the same chapter, “we are persuaded better things
of you, and things that accompany salvation, though we thus speak
[as if it could happen]” (Heb 6:9). Saying “though we thus speak” is like
saying, ‘like this could have possibly happen.’ In
other words, we are persuaded that you are save and therefore possessing
things that accompany salvation, like repentance, good deeds and of course
justification. If they could have lost their salvation, he wouldn’t have
confessed to them that God “is not unrighteous to forget your work and
labour of love, which ye have shewed toward his name” (Heb 6:10). Even
further, look at the following verse, “And we desire that everyone of
you do show…the full assurance of hope unto the end” (Heb
6:11). Full assurance means, being confident that you’ll make it regardless
of. Wow,
I’m really excited, I’m finding more nuggets on justification in the verses
after. For instance, “Which
hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and steadfast” (Heb 6:19). Verse
20 also said, “whither the forerunner is for [an example to or type and
shadow of] us entered, even Jesus, made an high priest for ever after
the order of Melchisedec.” In other words, as Jesus was made an High Priest
after the order of Melchisedec, forever, so we have been made an High
Priest (save) forever after the order of Jesus Christ. As one verse puts
it, “He hath perfected forever, them that are sanctified” (Heb 10:14). Need
