Bling Bling For Men

                  ¡@

There is nothing fresh with guys wearing accessories anymore. Not too long back, men's choice of accessories were limited to watches, tie-pins, keychains and even the pen was viewed as an accessory. Times have changed. With earstuds, cufflings, bracelets, necklace and the like hitting the local scene, men are now spoilt for choice by these objects of desire. Pendants and choker are the most common and popular among youngsters. Ear studs are earning their place slowly.Necklace? Um...are you kidding?

Not at all.

For starters, there are actually the upper, middle and not so lower class of men's accessories.

The punk trend:
Shops like 77th street, yellow and x-factory(Heerens-Annex) sell the widest range of accesories for both the boys and the girls. A couple of months back, coloured wrist bands were the trend. It wasn't here to stay. metal pendants being most popular of all range from gothic designs to crosses. They sell leather cuff-links too.
Price range from $5 for just a pendant to $20 for a leather cufflink.

The mid range:
Upsprings like Fjord have introduced a new class to the fashion scene. Made from stainless steel, these necklaces and bracelets have a masculin feel to it.There is a shop at cineleisure (3rd floor) that specialises in it.
Price range from $30-80.

The upper class:
Made from stainless steel, carbon fibre, gold and leather, ranging from necklaces to bracelets and rings, these Men's Jewellery of mainly Italian origin are a breakthrough. Brands like Morellato and Zoppini are being retailed under the brandname of Mio by Orva (http://www.orva.com.sg). Retail outlets can be found at Wisma Atria and Raffles City.
Prince range from $70 to $300.

Morellato accesories

Jewellery isn't something exclusively for ladies anymore. The new era of male confidence and maschino attitude have usher in accessories as a style and status symbol. With so much to choose from, you must be wondering what to go for.It all depends on the style you are trying to portray.

The new hip kind of look should go well with a standard choker. If you are wearing Polo for the day, have nothing around your neck. For shirts, make sure that whatever pendant you are wearing sits behind your collar button. As long as it is not too long/short it is a safe bet. For white shirts, opt for something black. If you are wearing printed T-shirt, leather cufflinks match well. Note: The design of the cufflink should face up, like your watch face. I am amazed many people do not know.

For pubbing nights out, Stainless steel accessories add a touch of class and sophisication. They go well with shirts. If you are wearing a bracelet (leather or metallic), skip your watch. Be careful with your choice of necklace or pendant. A 77th street gothic choker will look totally out of place with your TopMan shirt. Unless your dog tag has 18k gold for design (the morellato street series), forget it.

The saying that a men's watch and shoes tells what he is made of still holds. You won't want to be wearing a G-shock with your Mio Accessories. A general rule of thumb, do not over do it by wearing everything. Bracelet and necklace is fine. Ring, ear stud, cufflink and pendant, no go - unless you want to be branded AA. Talking about earstuds, Asian look does not complement diamond ear studs on men at all. If even David Beckham cannot carry the look, you shouldn't try. Save it for your girl.

My pick: Fibo Steel Pendant and Necklace. Around $200 from Mio.
