Lets be honest. Girls know they love to shop and their guys don't. Guys know their girl love to shop and at times they have no choice but to TAG ALONG. From what I have experience as a HE, this act of tagging along is no simple task. Well,it actually depends on whether you are out to impress or merely to be around.

If you are one of those who won't give a wooden nickle about being a good male shopping companion, then you really shouldn't be reading this. If you do read on, you will see that shopping with your girl is challenging but rewarding. On casual dates, considering how boring most singaporean guys are, it usually bounces between movies, dinner dates, clubbing or to most guys greatest dismay "Hey can we go shopping?" For a start, drop the "gosh" mentality. Instead, tell yourself you are gonna impress her by being one of the few guys with the finese. You are man enough.

Some guys look like they are being forced to shop. You can see it written all over their face. The girl, seeing how bored he is sometimes feel guilty or pissed off. Either way, she loses her mood (who won't?) to shop. "Since you don't wanna shop, what you want to do?" Isn't this line familiar? No?

I have also seen guys hanging around aimlessly in Mango, looking lost. Some even start talking on their phone, leaving the poor girl alone in her "own world"-Then why should she even be out with you instead of her girlfriends?

Insert:If it it is a date, why the hell are you talking on your phone. You shouldn't even be messaging unless it is of great importance.I suggest you either turn off the phone or ignore it totally. I can sense some guys challenging this already. For what? This are some of the subtle things which she might not notice? Think again.

Gentleman, prove that you are worth her time. Even if you are seriously uninterested in shopping with her, act like you are. When you wayang well in BMT you score; when you do so in This Fashion you are hers. When he walked into Veeko with her, he stays behind her all the while, trailing her like an obedient body guard. Be daring and venture off at times. Show interest in those female clothers you will never get to wear. Browse through them like you are shopping for a surprise birthday gift. That dress looks nice on her so go ahead and tell her. Ask if she would like to try it. "Not bad", "quite nice" and "I think not" are not what she wants to hear when she asks for your opinion. Be sincere and it will come naturally.

Now she wishes to try on this shirt, that skirt and the dress you just recommended. She is headed for the the dressing room. What do you do? Don't follow her all the way to the dressing room just because you feel akward sticking around a female boutique. If she wants you by the door (or inside with her) so you can comment on what she is trying, she will let you know. Keep up with the shopping lad. Now that you are alone, you can check out on the other ladies - just don't get caught. You see, its not that difficult afterall. It all boils down to patience. I have experience shopping from City Link, to Tiong Bahru Plaza and then to Jurong Point for a pair of sandals all in one day. I didn't die. You won't die too, so why sigh.

Some girls are considerate in a sense. They know its not a guy thing to shop and so they don't go on shopping for hours although they are definitely capable of it. On the other hand, there are also girls who will shop till you drop and then "you can wait here if you are tired, I will be back in 2 hours" Before you get to the B word, prove that you are up to it and last as long as her. You survived the 24 klik road March didn't you? The bottom line, there is only so much she can shop and buy in a day. You want her to look for you when her shopping cravings set in again. At the end of the day, if she feels you performed well, you will be on even grounds with her girlfriends.

I did say there are rewards for shopping with her. If you have noticed, guys pop by Precious Thoughts and Perlini Silver when V day comes. You ought to have noticed how lost they are when they start to wonder what to buy. Will she like this? Or will she prefer that? Now you see what I am driving at. When shopping with her, take note on her dressing style, the accessories she like and the like. Girls like to drop hints and we all know that. Shop with her and not just visit shops with her. When its crunch time and you HAVE to shop for her, you won't feel that akward walking around in esprit alone. Need I say more?

Once again, be a man. And a man knows how to impress her under when the boys fail.
