Game One: /Skaven
Nice Skaven list and a great player. I can't remember his name,
but
those who
were at the Lonewolf last year - he was the rat
player
wearing
the Greenbay hat. Played in the
spirit of true Skaven
insanity. Liked to keep rolling those ratling
guns and had dreams of
Doom
Wheels. A double chariot charge on his frenzied, flail-rats of
doom, a
couple of un-timely miscasts on his part and jezzails
that
kept
shooting themselves turn the tide against him in the end. The
Waaagh! was feeling pumped.
Orcs get a Mighty victory: 20 Battle Points.
Game Two:
Mike Grajeda / Nurgle
Demonic Legions: In the running
untill losing to Ben in Game Five.
Nurgle Demonic Legions are a
interesting list and Mike plays them
well. A
little more aggressively and I think he would have beat me.
Re-rolling
the instability test is priceless. Without it - it would
have been
a very different game. He popped three units, but passed
the
re-roll. Next time that BSB is going down. A pleasure to
finally play Mike though. I look forward to the next time.
Orcs get a draw: 30 Battle Points.
Game
Three: Ben Burns / Skaven: Won Best Overall
Great
list and a tough player. Despite blowing both of his ratling
guns up
(two 5's followed immediately by two 6's), and losing 6
plague
censor bearers to 5 goblin wolf riders Ben was chewing me up
most of
the game. In turn 5, I tried a desperation play and moved my
Black Orcs around to a tasty flank and hoped for Waaagh! I had five
casting
dice and Ben had six dispel dice. Two trys (with Buzzgobs
and I
couldn't get irresitable - Ben dispelled). The Black Orcs got
chased
around some, but eventually rallied below half-strength. The
Waagh finally went off at the bottom of round six. His
generals unit
broke from
the combined charge (Orcs in the front and Goblins in
the
rear) -
The points for the unit, the character, the general and the
standard
were just enough to swing me up to a draw). Neither of us
could
believe it though - we double and then triple checked
points.
Definitely a great player and a tough game.
Orcs are very happy to get a draw: 40 battle points.
Intermission:
Went with Jim to his buddy Matt's house. Definitely
worth the trip alone. Food, drink and a place to
crash. I was fat
and happy
with my three hard fought games. I was hoping to play
Austin
Ben's SAD army. It was hard, but I thought I could take him.
We'd
talked about it the day before and as much as I wanted to play
him - he
didn't want to play me (feared my model count).
Game
Four: Jim Bailey / Combat Woodies: Won Best Army
& Tied for 2nd
Best
Overall
Turn One:
Jim advances and attempts to cast his first spell. Rolls
three 1's. Miscast result blows his Arch Mage 4" in front of the
rest of
the army. All chukkas fire away and the mage goes down with
a spear
in his chest. Other highlights: 1) Gobbo chariot
charges his
spearelves from 15 1/2" away. Jim decides to not risk it
and flees.
Rolls
snake-eyes and they get run down. 2) Giant gets in combat with
his Treeman and Dryads. Thumps his Treeman for something like 10
wounds. Wins combat. Dryads break and get run down. 3) Two units
of glade
riders both fail to rally (needing 9's) and both run off the
board.
You get the idea. Tragic -- really tragic. Next time
buddy.
Orcs get a mighty victory: 60 Battle Points.
Game
Five: Cody Nesbitt / Tilean Empire: Won Best
Sportsman
Beautifully
Painted army and a great player. Army was a shooty
Tilean Empire list. His shooting was terrible for the
first two
turns and
by turn three the Orc horde was on him. His unit with
one
wizard
ran from terror and got charged off the board by my giant.
His other
wizard took a flank charge by a unit of wolf riders and was
killed.
My magic hammered him after that. Stayed positive about the
game all
the way through and pulled it pretty close in the end.
Although
it was a hard choice (all five of my games were excellent
and among
the best I've played in quite sometime) I gave him my Best
Sportsman
vote and knocked myself into 2nd by doing so. Funny thing
this vote. I almost gave it to Jim Bailey. If I had, he would have
gotten Overall and I would have gotten Best Sportsman. I also
seriously
considered giving it to Mike and/or Ben, but the resulting
scoring
change would have been less impressive.
Mighty
Victory for the Orcs: 80 Battle Points.
In the
end, I finished in a three-way tie for 2nd and depending on
the tie
breaker finished either 2nd or 3rd. Also, finished 3rd in
correct
(prettiest bridesmaid) however by beating Jim I kept him out
of
Overall and my draw with Mike definitely hurt him in his pursuit
of Best
General.
