Game One: Oscar / Empire (SAWG grudge match)

Oscar played a very cool Empire list with no cannon's or Knights.
This was a very hard fought game and I felt the closest fought of all
my games of the weekend. A very fun opponent -- a rowdy hell-raiser
who reminded me a little of Elvis with a personality. By the end of
the game he had me talking smack, hooting and hollaring right along
side him.

The scenerio was a rattlesnake round-up. Lesson of the game: Big A$$
Orc units do a much better job hanging on to the rattlesnakes than
little, fast cav. man-units. His pistolaro's picked one up in turn
one, two got bit, died and the unit panic'd and ran. Both of his big
hitter infantry stayed out of combat (Flagellants and Great Swords) --
the Orcs got away with two of the three snakes and we got a minor
victory. Oscar got my vote for best composition of the weekend. He
won Best Sportsman of the tourney as well. I played this game pretty
cautiously -- probably should have taken a few more chances with the
boyz.
Minor Victory

Game Two: John Bailey / Orcs & Gobbos (Another SAWG player)
John played a pretty similar list to my own: Night gobbos instead of
common gobbos, lvl 3 Great Shaman - instead of lvl 4, and his
characters were in chariots instead of on foot. This was one of the
guys I was really hoping to play -- so was a great match-up for game
2.

Scenerio was Texas Twister and the damn thing B-lined it straight for
me. Kicked my savage orcs out into dangerous territory where they
were raped by some fanatics. My wolfies won the fast cav flank war
(we both had four units), but his giant got thrown behind my lines
(by the twister) and got a flank charge off on my big boyz unit (w/
great shaman) and ate them. Fortunately his Great Shaman miscast and
went squig on the same turn so this limited how badly I got hurt by
the sudden lack of magic protection. He never recovered and got
charged by my wolf riders on turn six (broke and got run down). It
was too little / too late though and just turn a complete butt
kicking into a minor butt kicking. Overall an excellent game and a
fun scenerio -- at several points things could have turned either
way. John was a kick a$$ guy to play and got my vote for best
sportsman.
Minor Loss

Game Three: Eric Malcore / Empire
Eric and I both groaned when we saw the match-up list. We had played
two games against each others lists. One I had won, but the game on
Friday night he had ripped off both my arms and pummeled me with
them. I liked his list alot, but I was afraid for the boyz.

Turn one the doom diver dropped right on a unit of 12 knights - no
scatter and 5 die. Three spear chukkas shoot at the other big unit
of knights. All three hit and wound both ranks = 6 more dead
knights. They both take panic tests: a 10 and an 11!!! 24 knights
flee off the table before they even before they get the chance to
move. Ouch! Eric played pretty tough for the rest of the game, but
his fate was sealed. In the end, his Captain was the last Empire
dude standing and he had lost his mount. He was a great sport about
the whole thing -- kept his head-up. In the running for my best
sports award - but I didn't want to vote for the guy who brought me
(just seemed a little too much like patting a buddy on the back -
even if he deserved it).
Major Victory

So at the end of day one - I was 2-1 and had played three great
armies and three great opponents! If the SAGW boys ever want to meet
in the middle and throw down some tables -- I'm there. I was hoping
to play some of the others - but it will have to wait till next time.
