I played Cliff's Orcs this afternoon at MC. In my two previous
battles vs. the gobbies, I was totally wiped out! Unfortunately, I
was almost wiped out again...

1) Stone thrower misfired on first turn and couldn't shoot for the
first two turns.
2) Very, very, very poor die rolling, espcially with shooting
3) Poor deployment - didn't give shooters enough protection
4) Always take out the giant before it reaches close combat
5) Even on the few occasions when I could get an Orc unit to break,
he rallied them the next turn

Note to self: Slayers stink! I'll be glad when the rest of my
Ironbreakers arrive!!

Grats to Cliff on his overwhelming victory :)

Thanks, Michael, but to be honest, I was doing Animosity wrong and that alone could have made the difference in the game. Being within 6" proximity to a Black Orc quells Animosity by allowing a re-roll of a 1 on the check, not cancelling it altogether. Sorry...we'll have to try for a rematch when you get the opportunity in June.

I can say that Dwarves are tough, as this was my first time to fight them. In regards to the troubles that Michael pointed out, I think the only ones were really having an inoperational Stone Thrower for turns 1 and 2 and having some average die rolling in Shooting. He killed 4-8 Orcs per turn in a given regiment, and one unit breaking would have caused a pretty costly Panic cascade and disrupted my advance utterly, but where 5 Orcs didn't make 25% casualties and thus a Leadership test I got away light and the Dwarves suffered or had to add more shooting to that unit, taking away from elsewhere.

Had Michael concentrated on his right flank where the mass of his artillery was (namely the Flame Cannon eating my Trolls for lunch) he may have been able to destroy that early and surge forward with the Slayers he despises so much to make a charge instead of recieving one. Slayers could have handled the Giant with ease and it was one of the main reasons I sent him more center than Dwarf left to avoid getting a piece of Slayer axe.

It was a fun game though and really on the line, despite what Michael might think, until turn 5 when the Giant finally rolled a Stomp attack and smushed way more Dwarves than any other unit had all game. Lots of fun, but I feel bad for the win because of not doing Animosity right.
