The Legend of Captain Black Tooth and the ship, Maw's Kettle.

It all started on evening with the Captain and his crew landing along the
shoreline looking for some grub and booty. They had some company in the form of
Long Drong and his Slayer crew who were also keen to get some booty of their
own. Everything was fine as the company moved off the beach and onto the
greenway, though it was eerie quiet and black smoke hung in the air. They could
feel the eyes watching them from the gloom and shadows of the woods ahead. A
Bray horn sounded in the distance and foul things came loping into view.
Beasts, men and assorted mixtures in between came into view. The Doombull that
was leading the wild pack wasn't much of a tactician and had sounded his horn
too early.

Captain Black Tooth ordered his crew into a line and they herded the bilge
runts, that's what the Captain called his Gnoblar crew, forward to flush out the
enemy. Well them Bilge Runts were a squawking and a grumbling and it took some
doing to get them to moving. Most of them just stood shaking in the boots just
as afraid to move forward as stay put.

The Chaos horde moved forward preparing to put a hurt on the Ogres. They pushed
hounds, Chosen Knights, chariots, Khornegors and beastmen herds at the left
flank. Dragon Ogres, Minotaurs, Flesh and Chaos Hounds swept in on the right.

Now Captain Black Tooth weren't flustered one bit. He and his Man-Eaters opened
up on those Dragon Ogres and put a hurt on them, nearly felling one straight
off. But his Leadbelchers were a bit nearsighted and the volley on the left
flank was sighted poorly. The shot fell short of the devastating the Chosen
Knights by a fraction. The Bilge Runts in the center downed an unlucky Centigor
with a sharp rock.

The Chaos line erupted in furious charges. The leadbelchers were too fearsome
an enemy ofr the chaos hounds on the left flank to charge, but the Chosen
Knights of Khorne weren't bothered by them, so the Leadbelchers fled from the
charge getting clean away. They moved faster in retreat than they had in
forward motion. The Beastmen chariot, Khornegors and the Beast herd charged
Long Drong's Slayers and drew in the Gnoblars to their right (per Appendix 6).
Hounds on the right flank charged the Iron Guts spurred on by their Doom Bull
Master, but would have brought the Leadbelchers into contact as well (Appendix 6
again) so they fired and thunderous blast forced the hound to retire instead.
The Flesh Hounds infiltrated onto the right flank of the line. On the left Long
Drong's slayers dropped left and right to the combined fury of the beastmen and
their supporting chariot. Long Drong himself was wounded though not felled.
The Gnoblars fled from the fight, but the stalwart slayers held their ground, at
least what was left of them did.

The Gnoblars finally stopped their bickering. The Ogres counter charged on the
left flank, Captain Black Tooth charged the flank of the centigors in the center
and one of the Iron Guts charged the nearby Fleshhounds. While the leadbelcher
unit on the left flank fled the field of battle. The Beast herd and chariot
were routed, but the Khornegors wouldn't budge. The Ogres pursued at a lazy
pace, while their prey fled at top speed easily getting away. The action
panicked the nearby chaos hounds which fled for safety. The Centigors were
wiped out by Captain Black Tooth in one round. The Flesh hounds and their
Exalted Champion support (Drawn in per Appendix 6) were soundly thrashed. The
Exalted Champion of Khorne fled the table in fear, while the hounds stood their
ground.

The Chaos Warrior chariot and a second Exalted Champion of Khorne on a mighty
Juggernaut charged Captain Black Tooth, who stood his ground as the beast killer
he is. The Dragon Ogres charged the second unit of Iron Guts, but were just a
bit short and their charge faltered. The beast herd and chariot recovered their
wits, while the hounds continued their flight and fled the table. The chaos
hounds on the right flank recovered and responded to their dark masters bellows
and calls. The Chosen Knights of Khorne maneuvered onto the left flank of the
Ogre line with but two weedy units of Gnoblars to impede their chosen path of
destruction. The Khornegors held on and managed to beat the Slayer pirates in
combat again. The conflict in the balance as little more than 8 slayers and the
wounded Drong still stood. Captain Black Tooth was struck down with grievous
wounds by the Exalted Champion who overran into the Man-Eaters and blocked the
chariots own overrun move (both were in the same combat). The nearby Gnoblars
fled when they saw the Captain go down (failed panic test from a single model
with 5 or more wounds killed in combat). The flesh hounds were utterly
destroyed.

The Ogre Bulls on the left flank charged the rallied herd, which flees to
safety, and the 1st Mate (Ogre BSB) charged his unit into the Khornegors who
fled from fear (Ogres outweighed them and they were no longer frenzied). The
Butcher and his unit charged the exalted champion in the flank (he doesn't care
as he's frenzied) and ended up also hitting the frenzied chaos warrior chariot
in the flank (Appendix 6 again). The Iron Guts charge the Dragon Ogres which
flee and get safely away. The right flank maneuvers to deal with the Minotaur
unit, while the lead belchers move forward to make sure they have the range for
the Doombull. The Leadbelchers open fire and the barrage of lead, iron, rock
and other debris turns the Doombull into cutlets. The Exalted Champion and the
Chaos Warrior Chariot lose the combat and both flee. The Chariot is run down
and destroyed, but the Exalted on his Juggernaut safely make it clear of the
combat.

The Chosen Knights are forced to charge the Gnoblars that are blocking their
path. The badly wounded Beastman chariot charges Long Drong's regiment again.
The minotaur charge the flank of one of the Iron Guts (who flee) and try to
redirect into the flank of the Leadbelchers (who flee) and come to a lumbering
stop in the center of my right flank. The Beastman herd rallies again as does
the Khornegors, the Exalted Champion and the Dragon Ogres. The chariot slays
all but two slayers and Long Drong and is then destroyed in turn by Drong
himself. The Gnoblars are shattered on contact and the Knights pursue into the
next unit of Gnoblars.

On the left both Ogre units charge the Khornegors (my first big mistake of the
game - I should have charged with just one of them and maneuvered the other) who
flee 3" and get destroyed by both units. The Man-eaters and Ogre Bulls lead by
the Butcher charge the Exalted Champion who flees, the Ogre Bulls redirect into
the Dragon Ogres. The second unit of Iron Guts charge the Minotaurs in the
flank. The second Lead Belcher unit continues hoofing it for the edge of the
battlefield while the first unit of Iron Guts rallies and faces the minotaurs.
The Dragon Ogres are soundly thrashed, break and run. The nearby chaos hounds
panic and flee the table. The Ogres pursue the Dragon Ogres, but are a bit
short. The Minotaurs lose combat, but refuse to run. The second Gnoblar unit
is broken and the Chosen Knights pursue them down.

The Beast herd tries and fails to charge the flank of the Ogre unit (failed fear
test). The Exalted Champion rallies, but the surviving Dragon Ogre leaves the
field of battle. The Minotaur unit mauled the Iron Guts who break and are
subsequently run down.

The Iron Guts on the right charge the minotaur on their flank, the Man-eaters
charge the exalted, but come up short. On the left the Ogres maneuver for
table quarters (mistake on my part as I ended up moving the BSB away from the
impending combat) and prepare to take a beast herd charge. The Butcher moves to
get Line of Sight on the Beast Herd. Brain Gobbler goes off (causes a panic
test in target unit), but the Beast herd passes its panic test. The Minotaur
unit and Iron Guts manage a draw in combat.

The Chosen Knights are out of range for a charge, the Beast Herd charges the
Ogre unit arrayed before it and the Exalted on his Juggernaut charges the
Man-eaters, who stand and shoot (to no avail). The Ogres are beaten by one and
roll an 11 for their break test. The BSB is ½" out of range so they flee and
are destroyed (bottom of turn 6). The Man-eaters lose two of their number to
the Exalted and his Daemonic mount, but the last of them stubbornly refuses to
run (passes his STUBBORN break test).

When the dust and smoke clears the Ogres managed to get 2048 VP and the Horde of
Chaos managed to get 1917 VP. Due to league rules the Ogres are declared the
victors.

Great Fight, one of the best Josh and I have had in a long time. My ability to
eyeball 12" sucks, but we both made enough poor choices to keep it close. I
think it's time for me to see an optometrist about a new eyeglass prescription.

And in case you're interested, Captain Black Tooth recovered from his wounds at
that battle, but that's another story.
