The 1967 contest eventually saw a winner from the United Kingdom, after coming 2nd so many times. It was the first contest staged in Austria, the last in black and white, and the first in which fewer countries competed than the previous year. The song won by an enormous margin, and went on to become a massive hit all over Europe, giving Sandie Shaw a British number 1. However the biggest worldwide hit was that of Vicky, singing for Luxembourg. Her song was recorded by Paul Mauriat as an instrumental, and topped the American charts for 5 weeks. 2 weeks after it hit the top spot, no fewer than 4 versions of the song were in the Billboard top 100.
