For the second year running Luxembourg took the title, the first country to do so with outright winners. Cliff Richard had a second attempt for the United Kingdom, but finished 1 place lower than in 1968. The biggest selling song "Eres Tu" which reached the American top ten, again didn't win the contest, and could only manage 2nd place. In stark contrast to last years 1 English song, there were no fewer than 6 English titles in this years contest. 1973 also saw Israel enter for the first time, and achieve a respectable 4th place.
